you're doing great work! i wont disclose too much but my grandmother and grandfather live in your vicinity, last year you saved their backyard from flooding! they're elderly and cannot maintain it on their own and had made several complaints to the city with no response. FROM THE BOTTOM OF ALL OUR HEARTS, THANK YOU BROTHER!

This dude seriously needs more acknowledgement.
Can you imagine how much suffering and financial damages he's saved people from just because he's interested in drains and whirlpools make him happy?
You da real MVP, Post. Keep up the impeccable job.

This actually inspired me to try and unclog some of the drains when it rained in my city a few months ago. Granted, all I had was a stick that was lying around, but I *did* get one of them unclogged!

I love how excited you get about street drains! It's an infectious energy. I take the same pride in my work as a hotel clerk. It ain't much, but it's honest work.

Imagine a whole city is flooded
And this man comes in with his trusty rake dives for a drain and saved the whole city
Sounds like a comic I would read 20 times a day

One man with a rake replaces 3 DOT trucks and crews. Done in a timely fashion. These videos could be your resume.

Cities everywhere are watching these videos and going, "Oh no, he's showing everyone that we don't do our job but we get paid anyway!"

All jokes aside, that whirlpool is so damn satisfying.

For your question of why there is no pavement there, I can see 2 possibilities:
1. Adjusting the road plan after the pipes were laid: Moving the pipes that the drain drains into is expensive, so when a road is moved a little or (this happens a lot where I live) the road is narrowed to make the pavement wider, the drain remains in the original location but a bit off the road, a bit on the road (obviously changing the drain type to something else from here) or with an indent in the pavement edge.
2. Using natural soaking: Maybe if it rains a little, it would be better if that rain ended up in the groundwater rather than as quickly as possible diverted to a river, to help local plants and to decrease pressure on the wastewater treatment system (in most cities in my country in most older areas drains for toilets and rainwater end up in the same system) so then it would be better for the water to first have to wet some grass and sink into the dirt and if you ofen have small amounts of rain that might greatly decrease the amount of rainwater entering your waste treatment plant, greatly decreasing their cost.

Unclogging all those grates with a rake must have been draining.

There’s such a quiet contentment in watching a man happily unclog drains and help his community.

Great work my man. You must seriously love your community to keep doing the things your city workers and city officials won’t. I can only imagine how many times you’ve probably brought this to the city meetings about the storm sewer infrastructure. With as much flooding that goes on, you’d think your township would allocate funds or conduct a millage to build a better storm system. Either way, kudos to you my guy. Keep fighting.

Why is it so satisfying watching water drain? Just something about it.

imagine if he dives into the sea to find the legendary clogged drain at the bottom

I’ve watched several of your videos and I can’t explain it, but watching you drain these streets is soothing to me.
