I got a tour of this aircraft at NASA Ames in the mid-1970s when I was an engineer for United Airlines working on some contracts with NASA.

Thanks. I had a look under N710NA at Mojave, and wondered about all that very strong looking modified structure on the centreline, near the main undercarriage. Now I know.

The US Navy flew a CV-880 that visited the former Batch-Air maintenance facility in Miami, Florida during the late 1980's a couple of times. Wonder what ever became of that one?

The Convair 880/990 were a curious, but unfortunate result in civil aviation . Speed was no longer the primary factor
