Such a fantastic movie, I can't wait to see it again. I feel like this one will become a firm Christmas favourite from hereon in. Alexander Payne really played the perfect nostalgia card on this one.

Giamatti is a legend. Randolph completely deserved her oscar win.

Somewhere between Dead Poet's Society and Breakfast Club and Planes Trains and Automobiles....an excellent description. Holdovers was easily one of my top 5 from 2023. Paul Giamatti, Dominic Sessa & Da'Vine Joy Randolph are all awesome and love the 70's vibe. Fantastic discussion as always guys!

I completely agree with you both on this one! I really appreciated the film's 70's esthetic, which is on full display in the promo, down to the graphic treatment and that great freeze frame at the end.

I work for NBC Universal and had a chance to speak with a marketing person about this film before it opened (Focus Features is owned by NBCU). FF had high hope for this one, especially for the female lead. They lamented that there wasn't time enougĥ in the trailer to convey the fullness of Da'Vine Joy Randolph's role. I was so happy to see her get kudos, and take home Oscar gold, anyway!

Love Payne's work. Great cast, all around. Also, Paul Giamatti is a national treasure. I've been saying that since BARNEY'S VERSION (2010).

Loved this film so much. It hit the 70s film vibe perfectly. The young men in the cast actually looked like young men of that era. I really had no idea what this one was about before I watched it and to say that I was blown away is an understatement. What a joy of a film but also at times very melancholy and sombre. My favorite Payne film by far.
