News conference: Governor DeSantis Highlights Florida’s Law and Order Priorities (August 28, 2024)

Governor DeSantis held a press conference highlighting Florida’s law and order priorities at PCSO with Sheriff Grady Judd and Attorney General Ashley Moody. Pasco Sheriff Chris Nocco, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, Highlands County Sheriff Paul Blackman, Hardee County Sheriff Vent Crawford as well as Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Joseph Maurer, representing Sheriff Chad Chronister, attended as well.

One of the main topics Governor DeSantis discussed today was the State Assistance for Fentanyl Eradication (SAFE) grant program, which provides local law enforcement agencies with the funding needed to conduct large-scale drug operations. This grant program is administered by FDLE and provides reimbursement for approved fentanyl-related investigative operations, which may include overtime, travel costs, purchase of investigative supplies, equipment, and training.
