I like how it switches from angriness to desperation

This track terrifies me. I think of Paul from Ocean Song, finally reaching wherever he was running to, be it insanity, suicide or just isolation. I visualize him in a sort of purgatory. Once he’s there, he realizes how wrong he was and how frightening this side is, so he tries to go back to his old life and his family. This song is him discovering that there’s no way back into the life he used to live. He’s trapped outside. He’s doomed to this nonexistence forever.

That moment at 2:33 when all of the parts come together is one of the most impactful moments in music I’ve ever heard.

That feeling when the album was already a 10/10 and then the last track is the best one. This. Song. SLAYS.

“Who bricked off the chimney?” - that line touched me. I imagine him clambering onto the roof of the house, ( an impossible and extreme out act for the character to attempt, affirming the madness and desperation of the situation he’s in). It’s the feeling of real sorrow that he believes they have gone that far to ostracise him, the horror that people can be that dark and cold.

i love how this song just goes from manic crackheadery to like genuinly sad desperation

There are artists who try to create a horrifying song by trapping the listeners inside a box
Daughters did the opposite and it’s just amazingly creative and terrifically petrifying.

That outro could have lasted for 20 minutes and I would not skip a single moment of it

This song nearly brought me to tears, with it ending with a sound that felt like my brain was being washed clean after being put through intense trauma. Terrifying, haunting, beautiful. This is music, you can try and put it in a genre, compare it to as many bands as you want, but it is what it is. Pure, music, made to instill feelings of dread, panic, fear, anxiety, and hopelessness.

That faint scream/grunt at 1:29 IS SO FUCKING GOOD, it adds so much.

The first time I heard the album in full, I was shocked that this only lasted for 4 and a half minutes. It almost felt like it was longer than half the fucking thing itself.

I've listened to this record probably 15 times now. While driving, working out, working, just because, but I for the first time really sat and focused on what I was hearing and what was being said. As the lyric "Who put a padlock on the cellar door?" was said a wave of anguish, fear, dissolution of the self, and paranoia hit me like a ton of bricks and tears uncontrollably started welling up in my eyes.

For those of you looking for what will forever be one of the most profound and astounding sonic experiences, you can temporarily halt your search with You Won't Get What You Want.

I had a late friend who suffered from schizophrenia, and he used tell me al the time about the whispers of "In." that he would hear. I felt sick to my core hearing this, because I could only wonder if this was what David felt like every day.

Can't get over this song. What a beautiful tragedy. Daughters never cease to raise the bar of dark music.
