Being removed from a flight isn't always a simple decision from the captain on what to do.

This is an old clip. the 'wrong pronouns' got debunked by people claiming to be on the same flight as this mother. Turned out she hadn't booked an extra seat for her toddler, based on the fact that under-2's fly for free as long as they stay on their lap. But. Then you have check the baby car seat into baggage. She didn't do that, she expected the flight to be empty enough that she could park the baby car seat on an empty seat beside her.

At the gate, she got faced with the choice: you booked 1 seat, so toddler on your lap, and baby car seat gets left behind because it wasn't checked in. She refused, threw a temper tamper, and got denied access.

My 3 rules of flying:
1. Don't Die
2. Don't make the FAA want to talk to you.
3. Always pee one last time before leaving the ground.

I spent the best part of 50 years in aviation, the last 10 in only cargo operations. They were the best. No cabin crew, no passengers. Bliss.

The first one actually had nothing to do with pronouns or anything . The lady tried to board with only one ticket bc children under 2 fly free but she never checked a car seat . She argued with the gate attendant and was denied boarding and possibly banned from UA. I hate how people try to make thier own problems political .

I flew 747 passenger and freight. The freight never complained once..

fun fact: if your pilot flies you into the side of a mountain, there's a good chance you're also going to miss your connection.

I'm an ex-soldier and from my experience of the world, most people just want to have a stable life with enough food and shelter, day in and day out.

After 911 heppened, flight attendants were given a massive increase in authority, which includes having the pilot return to the gate and kicking someone off the plane -- and for very good reason. Believe me, I understand the power they were given. However, in some rare cases, over-zealous or power-hungry flight attendants have crossed the line. I was on a plane once when a flight attendant, during a last minute check of passengers before takeoff, ripped a teddy bear from the hands of a woman's child and put it in the overhead storage. The child started crying and the woman looked at the flight attendant and asked him, "What the heck did you do?" The flight attendant threw a hissy fit and said, "That's it, we're turning this plane around!!" He went to the cockpit door, got on the com system to the pilots and the next thing we knew, we were no longer making our way to the runway and were returning to the gate. When we got to the gate, the captain came out and questioned the flight attendant and the woman, and made the decision to kick the woman and her child off the flight. Several of us passengers who saw the incident tried to speak up, telling the captain what had happened -- that the flight attendant took the teddy bear from the child without telling the mother and that the child started crying, and that he why she asked him what the heck he just did. But WE were threatened with being kicked off the flight, too!! In other words, we were told to keep our mouths shut or get off the flight. I understand the safe-first issue 100%, but sometimes the flight attendant is just wrong.

I love how this turns into an elaborated rant on consumerism.

NFL player is Terrell Davis. Flight attendant has been fired from United and Davis' no fly ban was lifted.

Kelsey discouraging passenger air travel is a great way to create more airport capacity for cargo 😂.

OMGosh, Kelsey. It is so wonderful for me to hear you, as someone who has been there, done that say this about travel. I was a travel nurse and saw a lot of the country. I’ve only been to Europe once. I retired to Downeast Maine (I prefer the cold to heat) and I really have no desire to go anywhere else, except maybe to Canada (two hour drive).

As a passenger, it annoys me other passengers that argue. Just sit down and shut up.

This has been debunked. She thought she would get away with not booking a seat for her child and expected to have a seat when she got on the flight, so she brought a car seat, thinking it would get her an extra seat she didn't pay for. She then made this story up because she's clearly a hatemonger and knew certain people would take her at her word when many witnesses stated she was in the wrong, and it had nothing to do with pronouns. All she had to do was leave her car set and have her kid sit on her lap just like any other person with a kid they didn't book a ticket for.

As a Finn, i find this gender discussion so funny as in my language there aren't any. It's all just hän. Except in informal speech, often just "it". "Where's Ann?"
"It went to the store."
Saves a lot of arguments.

My Dad was a pilot for a major airline. He passed in '05. Every time i fly, i smile at the FA's, pay attention during safety instructions, count how many rows to the exits (in front or in back of me), treat FA's with respect, thank crew, FA's, and cleaners as i exit. I would be horrified if any of these passengers treated my Dad like that. It is simple....respect, manners, and appreciative. It's not hard people!!

As a former frequent flyer, something I discovered years ago, still applied a couple of weeks ago when I last flew somewhere. Smiling, being kind and asking nicely is powerful mojo. Even with gate agents (who all seem meaner than flight attendants to me) People just want to feel respected and even when I don't feel respected I like to think I am mature enough to still show proper respect in return. I've seen this passively embarrass grumpy people and they dialed it down. Tho I've also seen a total a-hole gate agent get totally snotty with a women who was just asking an honest question. I started avoiding that airport and a couple years later that airline no longer existed. Not because of me, but their grumpy gate agents pushed people away from them. I agree with Kelsey, vote with your pocket book.

What did we learn?
1. Board the plane
2. Sit down
3. Be quiet
4. Don’t cause a disruption on the plane, because, more than likely, even if you are right and the flight attendant wrong, you are the one that will be sent off of that flight.
Lesson learned.
Thank you @74 Gear
