Was literally listening to this album last week thinking how great it still was

I feel the complete opposite in this situation. I wasn't huge on Astroworld when it initially came out, but I find that it's aged fantastically

Only reason astroworld could sound bland to anyone now is because everyone copied Astroworld after it paved the way for psych trap. That shows just how classic it is.

I never understood why Birds was so hated on. I absolutely love this tape and always have. Tracks like the ends, sdp interlude, goosebumps, through the late night, & first take are some of Travis’ most psychedelic cuts of his discography.

As for ASTROWORLD, I couldn’t disagree more with Fantano saying Travis’ vocals sound weak and bland. Travis’ mesmerizingly hypnotic autotuned vocals are his biggest strength as an artist. Just like his idol Kanye, Travis uses autotune as a tool to deepen the emotion of his singing and create an ethereal, futuristic vibe. Anyone who questions his talent & passion need to look up his performance of SKELETONS at ACL 2018 - the last 3 mins of it he freestyle sings and pours his heart & soul out to commemorate X & Mac Miller after their passing. What he showcased in that show alone is otherworldly.

Not big on Sicko Mode because of overexposure, but Astrothunder, Skeletons, Stop Trying To Be God, Carousel, Stargazing, Can't Say and Wake Up are great tracks to this day for me.

Edit: It may have been something in my head, but I do not remember Butterfly Effect being included originally on Astro

Edit 2: ok, Mandela effect probably, but I SWEAR I remember being bothered by the fact that Butterfly Effect wasn't on Astro, I can't be making all of this up lmao

This shit is still one of the most immaculately produced trap albums of all time. It still feels super new

THIS is actually the most insane fantano take now

I actually think it’s aged not just super well, but in terms of the music being put out now - it’s still something most artists can’t replicate. Surprised it didn’t create more buzz in terms of a unique Houston sound for that scene.

I think AstroWorld aged really well actually, I still think it’s got great replayability.

Maybe it’s just the times I associate with it / around when it came out / memories of things it was the soundtrack to

Before Astroworld came out, I hated trap and didn't think it had any artistic merits. But because of all the buzz around the initial release, I decided to give it a try, and from the stargazing intro I knew this wasn't just another mediocre trap record. The outro of Stop trying to be God, with Stevie Wonder's harmonica solo and the James Blake layered vocals is one of the most beautiful things I've heard on any record period.

ok but that aside, the point about aesthetics missing from hip-hop right now is so true, Travis and Rocky used to scratch that itch but they've been on hiatus and it feels like most artists coming up are going the "let's copy what already worked" route and that's kinda sad, we basically end up with watered down versions of already prominent artists that already established an aesthetic to their own music

The psychedelic production is the aspect that has aged the best imo.
