RUBY SPARKS: Official Trailer

Calvin (Paul Dano) is a young novelist who achieved phenomenal success early in his career but is now struggling with his writing -- as well as his romantic life. Finally, he makes a breakthrough and creates a character named Ruby who inspires him.  When Calvin finds Ruby (Zoe Kazan), in the flesh, sitting on his couch about a week later, he is completely flabbergasted that his words have turned into a living, breathing person.

My favorite thing about Ruby Sparks is that the film was written by Zoe Kazan who plays Ruby Sparks.

Such an underrated movie, that displays how complex relationships really are and how selfish one can be. The Trailer doesn't do it justice. Such genius writing by Zoe Kazan and love that she twists the "manic pixie dream girl"-idealization around by showing that it's just a dream and the reality is much more complicated.

That right here is the definition of a so called “manic pixie dream girl“. It’s the fantasy and the imagination of a sensitive, romantic guy (most of the time he has a creative job like writer or architect) and he creates the ideal woman/projects his idea of the perfect woman onto the female protagonist. The only difference is that in this movie the female protagonist is literally made up and not a real woman the male protagonist projects his idea on.

This would be a good set up for a thriller if it turned out they were both insane. Ruby is a con artist who manipulates a depressed write. Dano is a writer who snaps and pushes his delusions on Ruby. The plot unravels violently as they each fail to maintain the made up story.

Everything that has Zoe in it is fantastic! Love her in 'In Your Eyes, ' 'The Pretty One' and the one with Daniel Radcliff. She is underrated!

They're both so talented Zoe wrote Ruby and played her, and Paul directed the critically acclaimed movie Wildlife (where Zoe also co-wrote the script with Paul) starring Carey Mulligan and Jake Gyllenhaal, which got 94% on rotten tomatoes

It's based on a french novel "La fille de papier" by Guillaume Musso. Great book, didn't see the film yet, seems good :)
