It is easier to connect a camera to an LCD screen than it is to connect it directly to the human brain. But they are working on it

Nice! Technology continues to impress from day to day and what once looked like hard sci-fi through TV series and Movies, is becoming reality now (or soon).

Putting a 60 pixel image in your eye when company's would rather put 41 mega pixel cameras in phones.

From what I can tell, this is more of a prototype than anything. The number of pixels is probably a result of the number of identifiable photo receptors in the eye.

It make me sad to see Clinical testing and FDA approval taking a LONG time in the US! The resolution and electronics are outdated because clinical tests have been going on since 2006 and even then, the reference design was already 2 years older then that. Coming 2014 this device is 10 years old, and It uses the same battery(Sony M-type) as my retired Sony Handycam that i bought in 2002! /rant

Anyways, Its great to see that the ARGUS II finally became a reality.

this is what technology should be used for, not for making phones with ginormous screens!

Nokia found out how to put a 41mp camera in a phone if they and some other company's worked together we could have people seeing colors in 5 years and sharp images in like 10 years.

Commercial entertainment use helps fund the development and maintain lower prices on technology like this. Hell, these things won't get near affordable 'till they release versions for the standard consumer that allow them to play video games in their eyes.

Transhumanism inbound.
