Nordstrom to shut San Francisco locations amid rise in retail crime

Nordstrom announced it will close two of its stores in Downtown San Francisco by the end of August, with a company executive saying the area’s dynamics have “changed dramatically” and are “impacting customer foot traffic… and our ability to operate successfully.” NBC’s Miguel Almaguer reports for TODAY.

Guess why retail theft is very rare in countries like Singapore and Japan. It's because they don't tolerate it. They put criminals in jail and keep them there and in Singapore you can also be beaten. In SF, you are encouraged not to report theft, because evidently it's not a big deal.

I was planning a family trip to San Fran but with violent crime waves due to politics and drug usage, maybe not. No safe stores to shop, dine and enjoy the once beautiful city. So sad !

The current Government in San Francisco is inept and incompetent to deal with the crime in the city. Mayor Breed and the Board of Supervisors need to go. Their soft on crime approach has all but devastated this once beautiful city.

I used to live in California in the 80s. It was such an amazing place. We would visit the Bay Area often because we had relatives in Oakland and San Jose. I still have fond memories of running around the parks and visiting the Golden Gate Bridge. Never heard of any crime or shoplifting. People had integrity and there was no lawlessness. Last time I visited San Francisco was in 2016. It wasn’t bad then but it was beginning to change and I sensed it. The homelessness in the downtown area was bad and the mood was different. I was cautious of where I went and never went out at night. It’s sad to hear because it will always have such a special place in my heart. The city is absolutely beautiful. I won’t go back for awhile. Changes to the city will happen once changes in the leaders of the city happens also.

Back in the day they used to hang horse thieves. Today people who steal should have their primary hand cut off. I’d say both hands but we have enough people on welfare as it is.
