Even better is to

1- Brush it out gently enough that you are not pulling the strands out
2- Preferably use a medium coarse pet brush (not the tight/fine ones)
3- Brush it out in sections and in multiple directions
4- The key is to try to get deep enough with the brush that you are separating and spacing the roots, because this is what gives it more stability for the strands to stand straight up and out

5- The final step is the finishing step. Use a blow dryer in its fastest medium heat setting
6- Blow dry the fur to a fluff using random directions (up / down / sideways / and swirls).
7- Not too close to the fur, because the force of the air flow will "pat" the fur back down
8- Be just far enough that air blows the fur around vigorously and gets deep enough into the roots (because see #4)
9- Then finish it with the fastest highest heat setting, just enough to warm up the fur (not burn it) - and really fluff it up
10- The fast hot air with cause the fur to rub against each other and form some static-electricity ("standing" the hairs up)

This works even better the higher the quality of the faux-fur material. Repeat this every couple of weeks depending on how often you wear it (especially if it gets wet with rain/snow). If you use a lot of "product" on your hair (or have an oilier hair type) - it will cause the the fur to get dirtier quicker. So if the fur is removable, give it a gentle wash (following the wash instructions very carefully). Then repeat the fluffing process above. Also, if you have a nice coat that you really like, but the faux-fur is not exactly to your liking (or don't have any faux fur at all) - you can buy replacement hood faux-fur on amazon. They have nice quality ones, in many different colors and fashions (and different animal replicas). They are relatively cheap and come with either buttons or zipper, so you can hand sow them on to the hood (and be removable).

This is the only solution that makes sense out of the five videos I've watched. Unfortunately, I don't have my dog grooming tools anymore, but a wire brush like this is key to the solution. Thank you for such a quick and helpful video.

Are there any products/steps you recommend to store the texture? I combed through the fur trim of my coat so it's better but it now feels and looks like dried-out wool.

What if its too matted...😅
Will it still work? I did the same exact dumb thing. The hood was SUPER fluffy and pretty. Now looks like a sheep.

If I did this to my Canada goose it would lose half its value the amount of fur that would be ripped out

Dang I need to refluff, restuff, and restrain the filling in my coat. It seems to have lost it's stitching and the fiber fill has fallen down to the hem. LOL
I'll keep looking thanks!
