One of the best pop/folk songs, uniquely American. I remember when this came out in the mid 60s. People were obsessed with it. Bobby Jo Gentry is a genius.

With another cover you posted, Blythe, I said I was having a hard time coming up with a perfect description of Lucinda's voice. I'm not there yet, but maybe it's not too far from "down home the right way." I've been toggling between this version and one by Bobbie Gentry herself. I've always liked and appreciated Gentry's style and voice, but once again Lucinda helps me with great mental images. Keep 'em coming.
