Regarding the suggestion about brackets around columns names, it looks like this has been resolved in SSMS 18.6

Using SSMS without SQL Prompt (from Red Gate, paid) is a nightmare. If you want to stay sane, SQL Prompt is necessary. By the way, so many years and SSMS still does not have multi-cursors the way they are implemented in, say, Sublime Text. Shame. I think the future is Azure Data Studio with SQL Prompt added to it. If these two are married, maybe finally SSMS will cease to exist.
