A recent study looked for level 1 scientific evidence comparing surgical and non-surgical outcomes for 10 of the most common elective orthopedic surgeries - arthroscopic ACL reconstruction, arthroscopic meniscal repair, arthroscopic partial meniscectomy, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, arthroscopic subacromial decompression, carpal tunnel decompression, lumbar spine decompression, lumbar spine fusion, hip replacement, and knee replacement. Evidence only supported two as having results that were better than non-surgical treatment - carpal tunnel decompression and total knee replacement.
