Read your history. Wallace was a Scottish noble (a lesser one at that) who wasn't interested in freeing the people. He wanted to stop Edward I from taking a cut of the taxes he thought the Scots on his land should pay him. Braveheart has distorted Scottish history so badly that people take that stupid film as fact! The Scottish nobles gave Wallace to Edward I because they knew they couldn't beat him in battle. Wallace was victorious at Stirling Bridge because Edward wasn't there. When Edward took command of his forces at The Battle of Falkirk, Wallace's forces were decimated and he went into exile.
