“Single Ventricle Heart Defects: Feeding, Growth, and Outcomes”
Target Audience
This activity is targeted toward all general pediatric physicians and pediatric subspecialists in the community.
Statement of Need
Pediatric grand rounds provide physicians a continuous update on emerging trends in caring for the pediatric patient, including new scientific discoveries that provide the underpinning of current pediatric practice. This activity will inform physicians about other issues involving professionalism, socioeconomic issues, and topics related to the ACMGE core competencies.
Objectives
At the conclusion of this offering, the participant will be able to:
1) Describe the epidemiology of supplemental feeding in single ventricle infants;
2) Discuss the factors that put this population at risk for feeding dysfunction;
3) Compare the current interventions being used to improve oral feeding tolerance;
4) Examine future directions to improve feeding dysfunction in single ventricle infants.
