The remaster of Halo 2 (Anniversary) has been released for PC today. The cinematics have been completely reworked by Blur Studios, so they look fantastic now. The game itself also looks much better, although compared to animations, models and effects of current FPS games it looks a bit weak. Nevertheless, this remaster is a real upgrade, and PC gamers who haven't played the Xbox version yet now have the chance to familiarize themselves with the deep story of the Halo saga.

The remaster looks exactly like what i thought the original game looked to me a over a decade ago

important note: the original cutscenes were rendered in real time, i.e. they were the same graphics quality as the gameplay. the remastered cutscenes are pre-rendered by Blur studios, so they look much better than the gameplay (which still looks great). i'm not hating on the remaster, i just think there are some people who don't know this

one thing i appreciate is that they weren't afraid to change the cinematography if it meant making the cutscene stronger. Certain shots stay the same, the same dialogue is used. but to make both those factors even stronger some shots and cuts were changed.

What makes this remaster so perfect is that it is a LITERAL REMASTER. its not like CE where the made certain objects look different and made the elites different and more bulky and also Ce Remaster looked unfinished. Halo 2 Anniversary kept the old look of the game while making it look up to date in terms of graphics. The chief armor still has the same exact tears in the armor like the original, all the enemies have their same looks, hunters look even BETTER, the sound design of the remaster is phenomenal. this is what you call a perfect remaster.

On PC, you can press Tab to seamlessly switch between the remastered and original graphics, there is no loading screen, not even a tiny pause, it just instantly switches and it's so cool to compare the graphics, I do it all the time when playing it, it's so cool

As someone who only started playing Halo from 3 onwards (never played CE or 2), Im grateful for these remasters. Am playing through number 2 now and it's awesome. Seeing these comparisons.... I think I'd have struggled to enjoy the original version!

Despite the cutscenes being done in a pre-rendered environment I have to say that they look absolutely gorgeous! From my experience most Halo cutscenes are rendered in real time, however Halo 2's remaster is such an improvement over Halo CE's motion capture cutscenes which feel very janky and weird when comparing it to the original which had similar issues but doesn't feel as bad for some reason. (Halo CE: Anniversary was my first CE experience, I never got to play the original. >.<)

I still can't believe Halo 2 was released to the Original Xbox. It looks like an Xbox 360 game. You compare it with other games released in 360 it's on par.
