The WORST metal building just got WORSE.

The companies I used - Newmart Builders Inc. and Brookstone Buildings. Both serve NC and VA.

For those of you wondering. I paid them too early, saw the building after they left, and immediately put a hold on the check, but they had already cashed it.

I didn't cover that part but it's why this is especially difficult for me.

I'm a lawyer. Glad to review your contract with them pro bono.

I feel for you brother, I have seen this way too often. Best way to spare others the same grief is to give out their company name.

I watched the first building disaster video the DAY my building was being installed. When they let me know they were finished and needed a check I said “hold up y’all, I just watched this youtube guys video….before I write this check WE are gonna go inspect”. I looked at every single screw and checked all of the supports with my level. Building looked great, sorry if that stung a bit, and I wrote the check. Then we got hurricane Nicole, and both windows and doors leaked. I called during the hurricane from inside the building, I had to shout, it was loud. Anyways 2 days later their warranty guy shows up and fixed everything, spray foam scheduled in a week.
I’m sooo sorry this happened. Suing people drains your bank account (ask me how I know, and no I didn’t win) and takes an enormous amount of time. They buried my attorney in motions and I ran out of money for legal fees.
Anywho, take some solace in knowing that you’ve helped some of us other folks by sharing your story. For that I say many many thanks! I have subscribed, and wait with bated breath for the name of the contractor so we can attack them virtually like a pack of rabid hyenas.

When he mentioned the contract he signed my heart sunk for him. I work for a bigger company and the owner prides himself on iron clad contracts. It really puts the customer in a very hard to win position once that contract is signed and the majority of the job is payed for. I really hate companies that get so big that customer service and pride in one’s work gets traded for a well worded contract and a bottom line that takes precedence over everything. Yet here I am working for one smh😖

Good grief. What a mess. I'm sorry to see this man, everyone deserves better than that.

Dude! Get an expert installer to review the work and give you a quote to repair to an acceptable standard. Then demand that money back from the installer and when they refuse, sue the buggers., If it's under $10k to fix, you can go to small claims court with the expert quote and get your money.

To be honest, with the building the way it is, it’s bad, but not horrific to where you can use it. I’d honesty try to get labor cost back and leave the building as is. If you can get this building at material cost I’d say it’s a win for you. I think that’s a better battle to fight rather than have the guy come back to rebuild it for free. Because we all know he will be pissed and not doing the top notch anyway

Pin a comment with the supervisor's email address... and this problem will go away. This is 100% worth fighting and your greatest asset is this community.

I just signed a deal on a building yesterday. After watching your video you can bet I'll be keeping a close eye on the install.

I was taught to pre drill the hole pattern with all the panels stacked (based on measurements of the purlins), . with a 1/8" drill bit... If you do this, Its import to drill the field (middle section of the panels) and then pull off two panels, one for each end then drill the edges in all the middle panels. When you are on the roof fill all the holes. This helps keep the drill from slipping off and damaging the panel. It also make the screws look perfect from all angles from the ground. We also worked one side of roof at a time because the measurements to purlins might not be the same on both sides.

You need to demand a whole new building and the owners to watch it be done I feel for you

Damn man, im really sorry. The frustration comes through. If i knew how to put up a metal building and had the spare material for a new building i would help you out in a heartbeat. Its sad and wrong what they did. Dont let the anger get to you. You have my support and im sure a thousand others. Be strong!

This is another reason to get hidden fasteners. When you get that type of roof, the panels are usually only 12" wide and get fastened before the next panels is clipped onto it. You can easily see the roof purlins too. ALWAYS hold last payment till an inspection is done. Post the name of the company and installers.

Guessing they have never heard of a chalk line. That’s what we use for doing roofs. Gives you a nice neat row of screws. Plus over here we screw mostly on the peaks.Also. To fix most of that the quickest and cheapest solution would be to get a tube of silicone and silicone up every screw and every hole. Use a dark coloured one so you can see from inside any you missed

🙁 Confrontation is difficult…and ultimately, you shouldn’t have been put in this position. They had one job, and they blew it.

I feel your pain on this. When I saw the shotty work that I hired a guy to do in my house, I then decided that I could also do shotty work myself for free! So I learned on the job and rebuilt the entire inside of my house. It was originally a creamery from the late 1800s but now it's beautiful because I did it myself with a little help here and there from my family and friends. You've got this! And yes, contact an attorney to see what your options are and also leave a hard hitting review with pictures for all to see! 🤗

I feel your pain! I recently had a contractor nightmare building a 26x26 Deck. The contractor forgot to make the deck SQUARE! With dozens of other safety concerns. I have lost plenty of sleep over it unfortunately. 😫😤

I am with you man the art part of a metal roof is the installation and attention to detail. Looks like your installer was focused on the finish line and nothing more.

Damn. It really sucks that you are going through this man. I’m going to get a metal garage in the spring. I really hope I don’t have to go through anything like this. We have been saving for so long to get this garage. Im not sure if I would be as calm and collected as you. You made the right choice by staying calm. No sense in freaking out over something you can’t immediately change. Just be patient and they will get it fixed or give your money back. The boss on that job better get fired. I wish you the best brother!!!!

When you do get the new steel, put longer screws in but do it on the ridges instead of the valleys. Less continuous rain impact and if there is a mess up and you get a hole from a screw, you wont have the leak you would have in the valley due to surface tension. Your roof will last longer as well. In the future, never pay more than a third until the job is done. If you were close then I would be glad to help.
