Can the BYU Cougars overcome their recent offensive slump and rise back to prominence? With star player Egor Demin's NBA draft prospects soaring, Kevin Young and the BYU men's basketball program is at a pivotal moment.

Explore how Kalani Sitake and the BYU football program can revitalize their offense by increasing tempo, focusing on north-south attacks in the red zone, and leveraging key playmakers. "BYU needs to find their happy medium of tempe and play with more urgency," says Jake Hatch, emphasizing the supreme importance of speeding up the tempo for Aaron Roderick's offense.

The episode also delves into Demin's potential as a top-5 NBA draft pick in 2025. "Egor Demin's rise is not just about his skills; it's about what he represents for BYU's future," notes Hatch, highlighting how his success could boost BYU basketball's recruiting efforts, particularly with AJ Dybantsa.

Speculation surrounds quarterback Jake Retzlaff's possible shoulder injury, with the host observing, "Retzlaff's performance seemed off at times" during the Kansas loss. Meanwhile, the future of defensive coordinator Jay Hill at Brigham Young University (BYU) is in question as he might pursue or be in line for a head coaching role this offseason.

Jake:

We enjoy your podcast.

1- One of the good things that BYU did against Kansas was sustain a drive for 10 plus minutes. Time-consuming drives can be demoralizing for the opposition while giving your defense a rest and keeping the other offense off the field. This is something great teams do well and is especially important at the end of the first half and at the end of the game.

2- In the red zone, BYU needs to take what the defense gives them, whether it be a fade, a speed sweep or a power run. With experience, Jake Retzlaff will become more skilled at recognizing defenses and changing plays at the line.

3- Good point. Time management is something BYU can improve upon, especially with the new wrinkle of defenses taking their sweet time with complementary subbing. This was painfully evident in the Utah game, and I trust the coaching staff is working on this.

Fans should be real proud of this team.

9-1 at and the top of a power conference in their 2nd year is outstanding.

Kudos to the team and coaching staff.

I hope the team shows up in Tempe with their best game yet.

Go Cougs!

ARod's offenses always do this. They start fast and look alright. Shaky, but alright. Then as the season goes on everyone learns how to stop him, and he doesn't adjust.

Against Utah during the last drive, Jake going to the boundary with the option pass to Ropati for 13-14yrds worked the previous week. Not against Kansas though

A pretty good measure of your coaching staff is if their names are being kicked around for similar level jobs at more prestigious schools or promotions at other schools. Jay Hill is well-deserving of those possibilities. When the last time you heard A Rod’s name being kicked around for a better job? Kinda similar to Tuiaki. Not a whole lot of people who were lined up to hire him.

Demin is straight up WAY BETTER than his peers right now, just watch

My unpopular opinion is ARod should simplify the playbook. I’m seeing way too many bad reads by Retzlaff and miscommunication with receivers. Too many timeouts are being taken because the offense is confused.

31:22 Goal-line fade pass has been successful this season to Roberts but the problem this time was the pass was poorly thrown ball. Throw the potential get/miss to the outside not inside. They already know this. Offense on last game looked reactionary, and trying not to lose. Play aggressive offensive football with coordinated confidence. GO BYU GOUGS!

At the end of the Kansas game when we were going for a game winning drive and got close to the goal line, I noticed that LJ Martin wasn't in the game. Why wouldn't you have your best RB in the game when it is on the line?!

Three Things I believe BYU needs to do to win.
1. Stop running the ball up the middle, no gain and a loss of down.
2. Strike for the end zone at midfield or near the opposing team’s 40.
3. Put a linebacker on scot. . . Boo.

When you look deeper into how we've gotten our points, defense and special teams has greatly inflated our scoring numbers. The offense has only been marginally better than last year.

I have no dog in this fight-Im a Colorado fan.And I don't know much about this top prospect you have in basketball. Its still college football & hockey season...after football is over is when I really start paying attention to cbb. I pay attention to the NBA even now- cuz I work at our NBA, & NHL arena here in Denver.

But everything ive seen/heard is Cooper Flagg is in a class all by himself bro. No coincidence he was lighting up future HOF NBA players at the Olympic training camp before all those guys outdueled Jokic, & the rest of the world to win the gold.Ive never heard anybody nationally say anybody is remotely with Cooper Flagg. In fact many people think he's a once a decade kind of prospect.

2 minute offense would work vs a Tuiaki bend and break defense

you should be moving quicker, make them feel the altitude

You are exactly right running this east west, side to side offense will never put points on the board, unless all you want are field goals.

BYU needs to stop having a goal to merely win, but to win with a large margin. That is when the media will take note. No one can argue with 20-35 pt wins….

AROD is a wonderful human but he can't call plays fast enough to speed up. They waste more time outs not prepared than any team in CFB and that comes with indecision and play calling lost that game Saturday night. For BYU to only score 13 on one of the worst defenses in the Big 12 tells the story. Kalani has almost fixed the coaching issues, brought in Jay and his Staff now he is almost finished, he changed the O-Line coach now He needs a top tier OC. Someone like Jay who can evaluate talent and game plan his best players in his scheme AROD doesn't. (-1 is great but they can be so much better with an OC who knows how to get his stars the ball AROD can't. LJ not getting 20 carries a game is a crime, Darius and Chase should get 8-10 balls a game. I love AROD the person he is my brother but his play calling in critical situations lack sense. IMHO BYU Football is so close to being dominant, they just need a great offense, they have the players and the O-Line is playing the best football they have in years. BYU is so close!!
