Wish every AT hiker could watch this! You should hear the shelters at night! Unbelievably loud! I saw this one and had to watch! Thanks for sharing!

Simple solution. The other options are fine, but Tyvek (house wrap) is a really good option because a lot of times you can pick it up for free at construction sites, just ask them for scraps/extra. I actually got a partial roll of it by doing that.

Hi, another option that worked for me, was twisting the Tyvek really tight and then undoing it. I did it a couple of time to make sure and it worked like a charm plus I saved on water and having to dry it out.

Does this solution also work for a snoring spouse?

I did this and while it was quieter, it also held moisture. Water hasn't gotten though yet but it stayed damp. The fine threads that held the moisture also grabbed and held debris. One other thing to remember is that it gets smaller because it wrinkles up so if you're cutting to size, wait til after you quiet it up.

Pro tip: wait until your wife is out shopping to do this. It’ll avoid the “you want to put WHAT in the washer!?”

Space blankets work well too. They reflect your heat back at you and can be used for emergency warmth if needed. If spread loosely they don't get ripped. They are about 6' x 8' and we tuck them under the edges of the tent so as to avoid runoff being caught and channeled under the tent. :)

It actually does absorb water if you wash it after using it for about a month on trail. If it rained or condensation formed on the ground I would have to dry it out during lunch. It also got a little fuzzy. I also made little sacks and those got really fuzzy from packing and unpacking with in a couple of weeks. So thru hiking I would not recommend.

I followed your Amazon link for the polycro and saw they had a few available used, "like new" for $6.70, prime shipping. Thanks. I snatched up a couple before posting this.

Excellent tip! I knew about the washer trick, even though I haven't tried it yet, but did not know about the 1443 stuff. Nice!

Does the Tyvek still retain it's waterproof properties after washing?

Hexamid solo plus, a sheet of tyvek, a foam pad and an expensive down quilt. I've tried just about everything else and I always go back to my old favorite.

TYVEK is water resistant not water proof from my experience (sweats) for a foot print. I had put mine in the dryer for 30 minuets with air only (no heat) with boots and it softened it up.
