La Palma volcano: Drone footage shows path of devastation as lava makes its way to ocean

Drone video captured Monday and Tuesday showed the extent of the damage caused by lava flowing from the Cumbre Vieja volcano in La Palma, Spain as the country classified the island as a disaster zone Sept. 28.

From buildings to banana plantations, the lava has consumed everything in its path with almost 600 homes destroyed as the lava flow makes its way to the ocean.

Some communities along the coast have also been put on lockdown as there is expectation when the lava meets the Atlantic Ocean -- though the exact time is not known -- it is likely to release toxic gases.

Look guys, I know it's hard to lose your home & the stuff in there, you live on an active volcano 🌋. My former in-laws lived near Pensacola in 2004 when hurricane Ivan did the same thing. There's always something to be aware of, and vigilant. Wherever you live. 🙏🙏🙏

This drone footage gives a clearer view of who are and what is directly in the path of the lava flow, as well as those who have lost their homes and livelihoods. What is the government doing to protect its citizens when the lava does reach the Atlantic?
