When we( indian Assamese) girls get our first period it is celebrated in a very grand way like wedding. And we get lots of gifts eat healthy and fast for few days. We really celebrate our womanhood.

My mum never had that talk with me as my older sister was a late bloomer and had her period at 16 where as I however just turned 11 and at 7am I remember like it was yesterday I had on dungarees and my parents were asleep when I went to the loo and wiped myself and there was so much blood I ran into their room screaming I was dying and to take me to the hospital and still had the loo roll covered in blood in my hand and that was myself finding out about being a woman and had to miss certain days of school because of the cramps and I remember my mum saying that after you have a baby it gets worse which I thought how can it get worse than this and didn’t believe her UNTIL I had my son and oh boy she was right!!!

My first period ironically enough started during my jewish friends bat mitzvah 😂 guess we both had the coming of age moment
