Today I talk to my little brother who is in the 82nd Airborne about his 2+ years in the barracks. As you transition from AIT to "Big Army" this will give you a general idea of what to expect in the barracks.

E4 and below don’t do CQ or staff duty but they can be used as “runners” for the NCO on duty.

I would have thought 82nd airborne would be much more regimented with the duties. I was in an army medical unit. I was required to have CQ, duty driver and barracks maintenance on a regular scheduled basis. You really lucked out for sure.

I wanted to serve in the Army for the past 5 years. RAIDER commander in JROTC, high ASVAB, perfect PT score. Was going to be a Cav. Scout but I was just permanently medically disqualified for a peanut allergy. I’d honestly do anything to be able to serve.

But regardless of all that, I’d like to thank you for all the helpful and useful information you have provided me with through your videos the past few years, even if I never get to apply it. Keep doing what you’re doing, the videos you make help so many people prep for BCT and more.

I’m late to the party because YouTube recommended this video today. In 2012, when I was a Bn XO in an AIT unit, we talked about the Army changing the open bay barracks to a two man “college” dorm room, and renovations began. The Drill Sergeants were replaced with Cadre who basically acted like a squad leader/platoon sergeant to prepare the AIT recruits for their permanent duty station. When I was enlisted, AIT barracks were opened bay with your entire platoon; and the Drill Sergeants stayed nearby in rotation. My permanent duty stations were all 3 man rooms with your locker, bunk, desk, and one bathroom. Boy!!! Times have changed, and Soldiers are really spoiled. I know my grandfathers had a rougher time in the Army than me; so that’s the trend. The Army gets more relaxed every generation. Soon, we’ll be like the French Army.

Your videos are really helping me get ready to leave for BCT. The RASP video had me rethinking my decision about it though. Can’t wait for more videos!!

I found your page, assumed you were Active but recently found out you were a Reservist. I do appreciate the fact that you don't claim to know about Army lifestyle but act more as an interviewer in this video. I believe that no amount of researching or asking friends will ever give someone the experience or credibility to talk about Active Duty lifestyle if they have never lived it personally.

Born and raised on Bragg in the 80's. Dad was 82nd. We lived in Bougainville now renamed. Fatal vision duplex nearby, MP's always yelling at us to stop peeking into the murder house.

82nd ABN, 1BCT 1-504 PIR soldier here. Good luck to you, it's not easy being airborne. Those barracks are really nice, I assume you live down the hill? Our barracks are so bad.

I leave for army basic on October 6th. I’ve been watching a lot of your videos to inform me and motivate me. This is probably gonna be the hardest thing I’ve done in my life. I hope I make it.
