In my opinion they should call it ChromeShare, because I feel like where AirDrop really shines is when sending files captured on your iPhone to your own devices. So by having it built in to every device running Chrome (Android smartphones, iPhones, PCs, Macs, Chromebooks, Chromecasts...), this would truly be a universal system for sending files across devices, without needing an internet connection.

Back in the days, an app called BUMP was used to send contact, photos and files between two iPhones before Apple came out with the air drop feature.

Xiaomi has had this for years on all of it's mobile devices, it' called ShareMe.

The thing is... LG to LG, Samsung to Samsung etc, the file sharing is amazing. I'm using a LG, yo share to another LG, you just click share and just wait the other device to appear and send it. It's like airdrop but only for LG.

But it's a pain in the butt so share to other phones.

Airdroid is cool, but the extra clicks makes airdrop better!

Google has an official app called Files and you can File Share through there, full quality. A 2 gb video was shared in like 2 minutes on there. I'm not sure why Google doesn't integrate the app on the OS side and promote the use of it. It's amazing

Air Drop has been crucial towards sharing files regarding protests in Hong Kong. It’s been well documented and I’m sure Google took notice that it’s just too easy to implement to not have it.

Android and Windows (and possibly Linux) devices have been able to wirelessly transfer files between each other without additional apps for years. The main tradeoff of the cross-OS compatibility is that it's slow af because it uses bluetooth.

Anybody else remember the Bump app ? Before Google bought it and then discontinued it. Could you imagine how much money Google would have made if they just put the app up for $1.
