Secret to Applying for USNA

The ROTC and JROTC nominations are in the same bucket of noms, so it is a competition for candidates coming out of both HS and college. The exact number of available spots for ROTC/JROTC nominees is different every year, not specifically 200, and is not disclosed. Only Navy and Marine ROTC/JROTC units can nominate, not Army or Air Force. The unit commander makes the nomination using the form on the admissions website. I believe most units get to nominate one candidate each year, while ROTC/JROTC units that have earned distinction get to nominate up to three candidates each year.

That being said, the admissions website encourages candidates to apply for nominations from all possible sources from which they are eligible, so if you’re in Navy or Marine Corps ROTC or JROTC you should absolutely ask your unit commander to nominate you!

Thanks for posting, proud of both of you. I'm a CDR with 22 years in and currently still serving. I have a son who's a Junior with awesome grades and other things he's doing well. I think what you've added about the process adds volumes from who have been through it recently.

Keep your heads up out in the Fleet. You're going to come across a ton of people who will challenge you...some not in the best ways. Keep doing what you're doing, the Navy needs you both now...

I searched for information about the JROTC nomination, and I couldn't find any. Is it possible you were one of the "honor" jrotc units? It seems only units that are honor jrotc schools are allowed to nominate their cadets. I'm in AFJROTC and the current Corps Commander, and I definitely cannot find any information for my unit either.
