I am sure you have heard the term or phrase uttered a few times around the Apex Legends Ranked community, but what is griefing? This is something that refers to a player or team throwing their game with no reasonable cause.

Griefing is typically done by hardstuck players in ranked, and this will prevent them from moving onto the next ranked solely due to bad decision making. Here is how you are griefing, why it is called griefing, and how you can stop griefing your ranked games.

Griefing means different things based on the type of game you play. Grieifing and throwing mean basically the same thing. You throw your games but grief the enemy team.

Yes because I want to sit and farm for loot for 30 minutes until last 3 squads. Because that doesn’t sound like the most boring thing ever.

Well that sure is a unique way to describe "griefing". I agree that the strategy your advising is +EV, but I disagree with your definition of the term, and I also believe players/teams should be able to play the game however they see fit.

Personally I don’t care about winning, I just prefer fighting even if I know I won’t get the win. 🤷🏽‍♂️

Tldr: dont start fights, wait for one to start and finish it.

Best thing I ever learnt from a pro. If you can't kill the team in 12-15 seconds its better to not start the fight. In general starting fights in apex is bad, people want the high kills but the longer the gunfire the more people who will come to 3rd party.

Imagine playing a game where the main objective is to fight each other and then be mad when people fight you. 🤦🤦🤦

I’m a pred level player, and don’t necessarily agree with all of this. Some people can climb consistently and still drop on 2 other teams, yes maybe they climb slower.. but they have more fun, more momentum and more time to practice fights. In my opinion “Griefing” depends on the intent… some people know they aren’t there to win so they purposely push fights with the intent to ruin another teams experience. That is griefing, making stupid plays because your are low skill is not necessarily griefing, even though we may call it that.

"Fight last at every opportunity" is basically the overall mentality.

This also plays into maintaining a healthy mental state while playing. If you start a fight and get 3rded, your brain often can't handle the strain of an extended fight and you begin to make mistakes and whiff while the fresh team doesn't.

This is also why Kiting is so good for alot of players because more aggressive "I must push" players don't have the mental capacity (This isn't an insult I'm talking literally how long they mentally stay at their best per fight) to take an extended fight and as soon as you back off and make them chase, their plan crashes and they make a mistake.

Those kinds of player need a clean fast fight to perform well, which is something you can abuse.

I hate it so much that if my random teammates go down and I know I won't win a fight I still have to fight because if I run I get cursed out non stop and spam reported

Some people in the comments sad cus they don’t understand game pacing, you can take fights and still make good decisions without griefing. I’m at fault of this too without realizing for a while but it so true. If you’re playing for the win you gotta play smart

It doesn't matter if you slap a different game lingo for it, its not greifing its bad decisions making and the other team is now rushing on the weaker teams, someone has to take the chance and pull a card of chance.

I say take as many fights as you can, build your awareness and learn how to use your surroundings to your advantage. As you rank up, you’ll typically be playing against better competition, so yes your decision making needs to be better, but so does your gun skill. Learning to finish fights fast and efficient is key.

I guess the apex community doesnt understand what griefing means, this would be true if players intentionally made bad plays but most dont. Griefing is the intention to ruin someones game. A way better word for apex community to use would be ‘throwing’
