The top seeded Eagles looked primed for a run at the Super Bowl, the only remaining obstacle was an upstart Buccaneers team. The Eagles opened the game with a 70 yard kick return which led to a 20 yard touchdown, but it was all Buccaneers after that as Tampa Bay outscored Philadelphia 27-3 over the rest of the game. The game would be known as "Black Sunday" in Philadelphia and Sports illustrated rated it as the #1 worst loss in the history of Philly sports.

As an Eagles fan this loss shocked me. But over time and even watching this game again we were witnessing one of the greatest defenses of all time.

Who’s here in 2021 remembering the last time the Bucs punched their ticket to the Super Bowl

I miss the fox laser sound effect when a team scored

Someone make a 10 Hour Loop of Joe Buck saying "Mitchell"

also damn the Eagles/Buccs rivalry of the late 90's to early-mid 00's is always one of the more underrated ones

if you listen closely on the Ronde Barber interception touchdown return, you can hear legendary play-by-play announcer Gene Deckerhoff's radio call of that play. It got so eerily silent at Vet Stadium that you can pick-up his voice on the telecast as Barber is crossing midfield.

Mike alstott should be in the HOF...not many FBs in NFL history did what he did..if Canton put a Punter from the Raiders in the Hall, the A-Train should be in too.

As a Bucs fan this game felt like a bigger win than the superbowl as weird as that might sound.

For those who were not around when this game took place:

It was 2002. The Bucs were one game away from attending their first ever Super Bowl. Against them were the Eagles, who had been a rival to the Bucs for the past years, as they always prevented them from reaching the Super Bowl. Not only that, but this was the LAST game ever to be played in Veterans Stadium, which had been the home of the Eagles for over 30 years. After the Bucs won, they went on to play the Oakland Raiders in the Super Bowl, the team which Bucs coach Jon Gruden had previously coached.

2:02:27 If you listen very closely you can hear the Buc's Play by Play Announcer Gene Deckerhoff elated with the interception in the background.

New drinking game: Take a shot every time Joe Buck says "Mitchell."

I went to this game. And for the life of me I can't believe I just relived every agonizing minute. And to see Warren Sapp get off that plane the next day sporting a Ron Jaworski throwback...smdh. I remember sitting in the stands for 30 mins after the game...stunned... watching them celebrate. Ugh. I'm still not over this loss.

Seven points in the first 52 seconds. Three points the remaining 59 minutes and 8 seconds.

Besides the super bowl, this was my favorite Buccaneer win. The Eagles has our number for a couple years and the cold weather always has our number (up until the Chicago game the same year). Man, wha a game for the Bucs. They deserved their Super Bowl win and as fans, we deserved it.
