As someone who lives in Japan, I know that none of these tips will apply to the already extremely optimized tiny kitchens here, but I'm still watching with pleasure lol

You explain the concept of longevity of these trends. I work on boats. I often find people modify them in either cheap or trendy ways that after an inevitably short time period they are either broken, worn out, have fallen off or simply don't work any more or are ugly as sin because they aren't durable. Rarely do these "fix your home for less than a nickel" DIY shows mention durability. However, we're all going to have to endure the poor quality of these ideas and once the initial excitement of the project is over no one has the motivation to fix the project when it starts to fall apart. Effectively making your project look like a project rather than a finished home. I know this from personal experience. I am guilty of this myself. Thanks for trying to educate people of these things!

I love your videos but my style is vintage/cottage core however I am trying to turn into a minimalist and have been able to transform your ideas into my decluttering journey. If they do already know it they ignore it in the interest of being popular or doing trendy things. You explain clearly & concisely the cons and negative results of these ridiculous trends in a way that blends just enough opinion and knowledge to create interest and thought on these matters. I have a 5’ x 8’ seniors apt kitchen.
1). I took an extra fridge shelf out, put it on the top of my fridge with a few inches jutting out past the top. ( the shelf is heavy, but I also hold it down with extra big pots and colanders). I then added a pot lid rack from Lee Valley Tools to hang off this rack, and some IKEA “S” hooks to the edge.
2) the single veg drawer in the fridge was stupidly too wide, so I took that out and found 3 containers at Dollarama, and they work must better.
3) one side of my kitchen is taken up by an apt sized fridge and stove. I add “counter” by covering 2 elements with a narrow grill pan. I have considered moving the fridge out into the living room so a proper drawer unit can go in beside the stove.

i don't thin'k having a mirror as a backsplash is a good idea; mirror get dirty way to quick (i have to clean the one in my bathroom every day >.< and at least in a bathroom there is no oily splashes, just water)
I'm mostly watching your video to take some notes for the renovation of an old country house. The kitchen is one of my main "issue": you enter the house directly in the kitchen; on the same wall you have the window and on opposite sides, 2 doors (so you can't use the wall where the window is at all). I think the kitchen would work best in a L shape (provided I can move the sink to a different wall) but that would leave the fridge (combined with a freezer) to be directly in a corner so i'm unsure if if would be practical when opening the fridge/freezer door. I'm right hand and the wall will be on my right; should the doors open to the right (against the wall) or to the left (which would create a narrow space between the opened door and the wall but would allow the door to open to it's max. capacity)? thanks!

This is interesting, but my small kitchen is in an apartment where I can't change any of the fixtures or appliances. It's got deep corner cabinets where there's no reasonable access, no free floor space for a trash can, and a lot of ceiling cabinets that I can't reach. (We have a step stool in the closet, but since everything else is there, getting any particular item of it ends up spilling everything, so it's not convenient.) I feel like there's some way to handle it, but every time I try, I end up making it worse. I'd love to turn one of the cabinets into a little pantry, though again, the height is weird, since the working height--the places it's at least sort of easy to reach and look at--are the only counter space. (It is also weirdly designed, with deep corners that are impossible to reach.)

Alas, I must quit bc of the incessant clicking noises added w each transition. Apparently this is a vogue tic on YouTube now, but it is the aural equivalent of strobe lights (think auditory clutter), making your otherwise excellent videos unlistenable. I hope this trend becomes outdated as quickly as open shelving.
