Keep in mind when using heat tape to use a thermostat that can withstand the number of watts your heat tape will put out, and keep in mind to use more than one thermostat if you are using more than 20 feet of heat tape. This design uses around 14 feet of heat tape and only 84 watts, which is well under the 1000 watt limit of the thermostat.

Hey guys! The enclosures were a bit bare due to having been laid off the same day I finished building them, so I didn’t have the finances to go all out with decorating BUT they were decorated as soon as I was employed again and you can find an updated tour here:

They look good 😊 only thing i would change is i would get some cheap track from any place that sells glass or online so i could make sliding doors

This is so handy to know, I had no idea how electrical tape worked but seems like such a brilliant solution over buying thermostats per shelf which would be so expensive!

Hey everyone! Pinning this comment because I keep getting the question: for ventilation, you can drill sides in the hole or back, or you could cut out a section of the back and affix mesh over the opening.

I'd also like to add that yes, they look bare in this video. I believe I explained why, but literally the same day I finished building the gecko bookshelves, I got laid off from my job. But this was a long time ago, and the shelves are more plentifully decorated. I will have an updated tour coming out soon, and I will link it here.

i love the duck brand shelf liner its thick soft and best part can be put into the washer lol i keep extra pieces cut and once a month i change them out and wash to remove soaked in smells that the spot cleaning each day might of missed just toss in washer to soak then wash and air dry and ready for the next month changes. it also means i get a differnt look for a bit since i have it pre cut in differnt patterns and the leos seam to enjoy the differnt looks from time to time

I love this. I only have one gecko but I also have a ton of books lol. I might actually try this for a sleeker look rather than having my enclosure on top of my bookshelf lol

You did such an amazing job on the enclosures! I’d love to try some DIY setups someday so I’d have space to get more babies.

If using heat tape youll want to create a gap on the sides of the shelf so the tape isnt squished in between the shelf an side you can sand down the width of the tape on the sides of the shelf. Its highly reccomended.

I would have liked to see how the doors work, also should there be holes drilled somewhere for airflow or is that not needed? These look like they would be perfect, I’m. Thinking of how I might be able to adapt something like this for Hognose’s? They would probably need more depth, but if it was long enough, like 4 feet would a smaller depth be ok for them? And do you have any ideas for diy sliding doors? Sorry lots of questions . Would have loved to see finished product better, there may be a lot of people who would love to add more to the enclosures but just can’t at the moment, would be nice to see what others come up with on a budget.

A wooden bookcase like this wouldn't work well for reptiles that require high humidity right? I'm assuming mold and wood mites would form?

So, my brother's leo has been attacking my leo and now she has an infection. I have to move my leo into a new enclosure. I watched this video because my enclosure is kinda like a bookshelf and it was pretty much the same size. I just did mostly what you said and my leo is doing okay so far in her new enclosure. Night one so far is good.
