Yes. The answer is yes. The hoss is a good car, but it's just a parts bin special. Throw together some leftovers and charge a premium

Just got into rc this year, after a bit of searching I went with the hoss. Lots of fun, and I never regretted getting it. That being said, for the 3-4 months I've had it, I've spent more time fixing it than driving it. Broke on its first time out. It's a drive shaft killer for sure, and the steering and arms are pretty weak. Servo is absolute garbage, best upgrade I did was the servo. Got myself a Maxx about a month ago and my first thought was I should have just bought the Maxx in the first place. It drives better, jumps better, feels much more sturdy and substantial. I'm trying to break it so I can have an excuse to work on it and I can't, where as with the hoss I was careful and it broke anyway. From my personal experience it's not even a fair comparison. The Maxx is light-years ahead of the hoss, and very much worth the extra money up front.

Hoss is amazing in the air. I bought the Maxx recently for toughness and 4s, but I also love the Hoss!! It is not overpriced, really. Maxx is a bargain though, to me. They are much cheaper trucks out there, obviously, both require upgrades. Good video...

So the Hoss is like the Maxx's annoying little brother

The Hoss is pretty close to be fair to it. That slash style chassis family still has some miles in it yet.

It does indeed seem a little more stable and thanks it's lighter weight, it seems to be very responsive to the throttle while in the air.

I always thought it would be good though, even if it is a parts bin special.

I would still be temped to go for the Maxx though.

It's incredible how much abuse these things can take. Back in the 80's with my Big Foot, I replaced the gears about every other time I ran it.

That speed tracker is no right at all the Maxx and Hoss were both going way over 35.

As someone that was in the hobby 30 years ago, and recently got back into it, I know some people that really bash Traxxas, and I just don't get it... This video is ridiculous and they just keep going lol. If they do break, the support to fix it is endless, unlike my Vaterra I've already shelved. I'm clearly not hard enough on my Rustler VXL 4x4, but seeing this makes me a lot more comfortable doing it! Great videos, best rc sub on the tube.

Team Hoss! Yeah, it's a parts bin car. But I have a Slash, and that thing is tough! So, they're great parts in that bin. Also, since it shares parts....it gonna share parts from my parts bin, and use the batteries I already have. Plus what others have said about being lighter. Lastly, those parts are gonna be cheap for repairs too. Love em both though obviously.

The V2 is definitely worth the additional $$.
I have the X-Maxx and it is my absolute favorite R/C Monster truck, but I love that the MAXX v2's smaller size. If I drove the Maxx V2 before I dropped the money on the X-maxx, I probably would have passed on the X-maxx. The Maxx is mire nimble and the cost can't be beat for a R/C that is so well engineered. If you want a truck that is damn near bullet proof has excellent plus performance, the Maxx v2 is the ticket.

“Hey my RC car got stuck in your tree. Can I get it back?”

Kev, you just have to be one of my favorite YouTubers ever. I don’t really think people appreciate you enough.

One of the best R/C reviewers.
Funny too. 😂 We just got a hoss and love it.

Great video. I prefer how the Hoss drives too. Just wish it was a lower price considering how many better things the Maxx has for only $80 more. So the Hoss doesn’t make sense for being so much lesser, but so close in price. But overall...I just like driving it more.

The maxx is a much better monster truck platform. Traxxas put time into designing something from scratch to give people who don’t have the space or the money to purchase a full size Xmaxx or people who just don’t want something that large

I’m getting a hoss for christmas and I can’t wait for it! Each and every video on the car has just made me even more excited and this one made me want it even more 😁

Nice Video Kevin! I agree the mini Maxx is ultimately the better value. But what you still need to try is the Wide Maxx conversion with steel drive shafts. Its a whole different beast, way more stable, and should be sold that way from Traxxas out of the box. Try it and you will see!

I have a HOSS and it's awesome...after I broke and upgraded everything to metal ($250.) If the XMAXX is more durable out of the box, then it's the better buy.
