I was waiting for a video comparing these exact 3 units. Perfect!

Ampeg with a P Bass was definitely my favorite.

All three sound great in their own way! I thought I'd prefer the Ampeg, but in the end, the SansAmp is the winner for me: Most of the time very close to the original, it sounds way better at high gain than the other pedals, and it's less expensive as well.

For me its clearly the ampeg pedal. It does everything here qell and it is absolutely close to the amps sound. If its not enough crisp, there are more than enough pedals to add that little extra spice of whatever younprefer, but i think i could live with the Ampeg Pedal by itself just fine.

I love strong mids, which is why I like the Origin pedal best in this comparison. My sound is similar to the Origin Rock Bass example. However, I sold my Origin because I can achieve equally strong, midrange-focused rock sounds with the SH-1 from Tech21. However, the SH-1 with it's two-channel setup (clean and dirty for the same sound) and the onboard tuner give me everything I need live in one compact unit.

The Bassrig is the winner for me because I like that full midsy and beefy sound it produces! The other two sounded thin to me.

Bassrig sounds by far the fullest to me in every example. VT has a bit of a different mid accent which is also awesome.

wow ...a video where the ampeg is clearly superior to the bass rig in as much as the ampeg is leaving space in the mix for other instruments instead of swamping ..the ampeg does have an instant scoop if you engage the the hi and lo switches which to me seems very useful. Well done ampeg.

I owned all these 3 pedals, and ended up selling the Ampeg. In single-setting devices analog pedal still give a better feeling "under the fingers".Digital modeling is the way to go when multiple presets are needed but here there are more realistic AMPEG emulations out there (TONEX above all). Ampeg SGT is still a nice pedal, especially if you need compression and a dual channel pedal. I think it's B15 emulation sounds better

The Ampeg SGT-DI sounded the best by far.

It would be interesting to hear how it cut through the mix with a pair of heavy elecrtric guitars and a singer! I prefer the Ampeg but i bet the OE would work better with its pronounced mid range. Also, it's strange to notice that the Tech21 which for me is in last position with the PB, is imho N°1 for the Spector (if Spector it is)!

I didn’t have my cans on but Ampeg seemed to win every category

The best was the SGT Di. I owned a bassrig too, and the ampeg too, and i preferred the ampeg more. Btw. You didnt used the cab sim and bite switch on the sansamp. That could do some magic too..

SGT DI all the way; good amount of scoop without being too much like the VTDI

Thank you for this great comparison. I prefer the origin effects but my wallet prefers the tech21 one. ;-)

The two analogue units sound much more direct than the ampeg with IR engaged (unless that's just a volume thing)

Man I am actually surprised by the sans amp...that first tone from the sans amp with just a tad more bass would sound nice.

Quick Question: as that thing is basically a pedal - is it possible to connect the Ampeg SGT DI to a Bass Combo or does it have to be connected to a Cab instead?

The Ampeg one sounded the best, like a juicy steak

Through my iPhone speakers (which counts for nothing) best to worst: Ampeg, Sansamp, Bassrig
