the amount of them saying “people with a bad relationship with their family” as a red flag was honestly off putting. people sometimes have to know that a lot of the time when someone has a bad family relationship it’s because the parents were physically abusive, verbally abusive, or controlling. i have a bad relationship with my parents because they use physical discipline such as hitting me and restraining me, and would starve me and not let me have meals if i didn’t get an a on an assignment. i’m still family oriented

I have SUCH an issue with people who write people off when they have difficult familial relationships, or call it a “red flag“. It’s personal for me, I realize.. but man… there’s so much room for nuance there.

What about kids who grew up in physically abusive situations? Or kids who’s parents were addicts? There are so many thing that could have happened that are not the child’s fault.
