The new update to Google Docs! If you don't have it natively yet, make a copy and try for yourself!

Updates! ( as of 10/22/2024)
1. You can now search Tabs! Use CTRL+H and select "This Tab" or "All Tabs"
2. As you Scroll down to the end of a tab, it gives a pop up to go to the next page.

Just got this today and I'm loving it. I've felt for a while that Google has a "missing middle" when it comes to notes, between a Keep note and a full on document, that you couldn't really structure in the same way as a OneNote notebook for example. I use the outline, and headers, and smart chips and so on, but that can be a bit fiddly. This absolutely fills in that missing middle. Game changer for me. I'll no longer be idly thinking about trying other note taking programs.

What a helpful feature! I hope I can put it to good use. It has so much potential for a lot of people writing on the same document. Now I can just assign each of my teammates at school one tab and then we just compile everything on a different "final tab" for presentation with a different format, so we don't mess up each other's parts without having to manage two or more documents at a time!

Love the feature, but it has a long way to go and worried it really hasn't been well thought out, meaning support for it will change or lead to document issues in the future. I have enough other note taking programs, but I do think it is a well laid out method of organizing complex ideas and writing (documents within documents).

It annoys me so much that all the tabs are open by default... I wish it was closed by default, and then I could open the tabs I'm interested in opening... Does anyone have a solution for this issue?

Thank you, this is very helpful. I love the new tabs feature. Hopefully you can help me with this… on my ipad or iphone if i am creating a new doc (one i did not start on my desktop) i do not have the tabs feature at the bottom or in the turn on outline setting. There is nothing about tabs. I did update the app and still nothing there. How do i turn this feature on my iOS device with having to create it on the desktop first? Thank you

This video and other tutorials are so frustrating. How do I use tabs in an existing document. For instance. I have a bunch of email drafts in an existing document and I want to assign a tab to each one. How can I do that?

Does anyone know how to download the document with the tabs intact, in some way? if you download the document you only get the download of the tab that you are working on.

Not very nice. The tabs in general should have been optional or they should allow easier use of the headings outline. Not everybody needs tabs and especially not everybody needs separate docs inside docs. Now it's floating there requiring you to think about what tab you are on and makes it much more complicated to use
