Good video. I use my 2018 iPad Pro for almost everything musically these days. It definitely has Its limitations, but its been a fantastic way build a different type of workflow. Its even gotten to the point where I rarely open my powerful, full featured laptop anymore.

I think people need to stop comparing is to desktop for music.. The workflow isn't the same

I love iOS like people love the Teenage Engineering it offers constraint and simplicity. I have recently go back into producing after 14 years away.... now as a full time software developer/tester I do not get the time like back in 2008 when I was rocking a Pro-Tools rig home studio (before youtube) whilst in Uni doing Music Production so its the perfect all rounder that gets me away from my PC/Mac for a few hours. Yeah its hacky as hell... AUM plus some other swiss knife apps make it 99.9% the same.... but without the distraction of a DAW and fully fledged computer at a fraction of the price. I know I wont produce a number 1.... but I still enjoy each Jam I do. Maybe someday will upload to youtube or w/e for others to enjoy.
Either way, loved the video! Subbed 😁

Great video, all good points and the presentation was clean and concise!
In regards to iOS devices for audio production it’s wise to consider this option: once you have a stable setup and a well-rounded selection of apps, that device can be kept in that state and used exclusively for musical purposes, though this inevitably results in some FOMO when app updates require an iOS update as well.
If the platform is considered more like firmware and the devices like grooveboxes or portable workstations then an iOS setup becomes a very serious alternative to a hardware setup, not only for price but portability and level of customization as well. For example, it’d be worth considering an iPad with some apps of choice, an audio interface, and a Korg microKey air 61 instead of a Triton or Fantom workstation, especially if you’re more interested in workflow versatility than the physical feel of those specific devices.
It is a shame Apple doesn’t really cater to the musical side of the iOS community with hardware features, but as long as they at least acknowledge it and continue to show some love by maintaining and updating GarageBand then iOS will always be a useful platform for many types and levels of audio production, including professional use.
Thanks for the great content as usual man!

Excellent video. Very well made and presented as usual. I’m going to share this a few people I know who are curious about iOS Music. I think though, that it is very difficult to convey how inspiring a platform it can be until you can persuade someone to actually dive in and try it out.

Hello, just watched your video, it's the first one of it's kind that I stumbled onto, I just recently bought an iPad to do beginners music production with, but come to find out my laptop is a better device for working with DAWS. I've been using LMMS and it's fine. Would you know of a good Rock style music app or DAW to use, ? Great Video!!

My brother thank you so much for all those update but we need more space in the iPad from apple because we iOS producer are suffering for that and thanks again.

Being able to undo an update would be a tremendous improvement.

Use a DAC Amp with a good pair of studio IEM or Cans and you’re good to go

What do you think about taking advantage of both worlds sketching musical ideas on IOS and then take it to desktop for further development, mixing and mastering and finish the track?

IOS recording is better than how I was recording music in the late 80’s on a Tascam Porta One four track cassette I find that limitations helps with

100% I’m not a serious producer, so I’ve got few issues with iOS as a hobbyist. If my livelihood depended on music production, I would still play with it on the side and hope it evolves into something more suitable for reliable pro-level work, but I would be more heavily invested in industry standard gear as my workhorse.

iOS is capable of doing AMAZING things, but it hasn’t yet reached the level where producers can confidently go all-in without accepting its limits and tradeoffs.

I would really love to see apple embrace the world of music creation as powerfully as it did graphic design, back when Macs were THEE default for digital creatives (the early days of photoshop, Quark express, macromedia, etc.).

Great video except that Sampletank 4 will have auv3 sometime soon so that should be plenty of virtual instruments for most producers .

I agree with everything. I believe it’s up to us users to push the development forward by making it known to developers what we want. I feel like the people at Stienberg don’t know what we really want with cubasis. They refuse to consider things like external side chain support, send tracks in the mixer, sampler/slicer (they added this to desktop app Cubase) idk maybe they just don’t believe in iPad “Pro” production. I hope Apple comes with a major update with garage band making it more like Logic Pro or bring a touch friendly Logic Pro to iPad Pro and that’ll make every other developer step up there game.

I could never get the vocals where I needed them to be with iOS

Quality is a perceptive choice. While the iOS devices VSTs do not have the “pristine” sound qualities of a computer, the opposite is also true. It’s a matter of choice.

Great video! I believe iOS and desktop have their core strengths: portability for iOS and While I think both extremes can work out on their own, the blend is probably going to be the best. But sure not everyone have willingness to invest to both and want to make a choice.
