Hi I'm James and welcome to Get Teducated. Drones have been steadily increasing in popularity over the past year or two, as have the range of available options, so today we're going to fly over the key features some popular drones to give you a better idea of what to look out for when you land in store.

Now, for those new to drones there are some safety regulations that you should make yourself familiar with prior to operating any drone. These are listed on the Civil Aviation Safety Authority website.

When choosing your first drone, it can be tempting to pick up a super cheap one because it's "just a bit of fun". I can tell you from personal experience it's not so fun when just as you're getting the hang of flying it, you come to realise the battery only lasts 5 minutes as your brand new drone plummets to the ground and quickly disassembles itself.

That's why I'm a big fan of the Kaiser Baas Delta drone. The Delta drone offers a couple of important features at an affordable price. It has a decent battery life which is quoted at up to 17 minutes, giving you plenty of practice time between charges, but importantly won't need as much practice because of it's built-in GPS. The big benefit of GPS is that it gives the drone the ability to hover in place without input from the user, making it much easier to pilot as it gives you one less thing to worry about while you're trying to navigate into the position you want. It also enables a "Return To Home" function that activates automatically if the drone loses signal, or manually by pressing the big Home button on the controller.

The Kaiser Baas is definitely a great deal if you already own a GoPro and are looking to dabble in some drone footage, but it doesn't actually come with a camera built-in. It's still a great option for first time drone pilots though, because let's face it, crashing is inevitable, but I found the chassis itself can take plenty of punishment and replacement rotors are cheap if you do happen to do some more serious damage.
