NYCHA residents frustrated with cold apartments

Residents of a senior NYCHA building in Brooklyn were frustrated by the lack of heat in their apartments on Christmas Eve.

The people who are commenting about cheap rents are dumb. The tenants may pay $200 rent, but the federal government is paying the other $2800.... so the landlord which is the city is still getting $3000 for an apartment. They should be providing heat and making repairs, because they're getting paid to do so.

Thanks PIX 11 for bringing light to this tragedy in a whole senior citizen low income development at the height of NYC WINTER, the staff of the development haven’t been doing their jobs of putting in the orders to repair the development. I pray the Lord send his Angels to work with NYCHA to EXPEDITE THIS MATTER AND SEAL THOSE WINDOWS INSIDE AND OUT!!! While NYCHA sends another team to asses the heating unit and install an updated heating system to give the elderly proper heat and services. That report reminded me of the 1980s NYC winter.. Please Lord Help fix this disaster for the elders and NYCHA. 🙏🏾

File a complaint with the housing preservation and development. If there's no response, then all of the tenants need to sue the landlord for violating the warrant of habitability per ny state

There are 2, 500 empty NYCHA apartments are empty, due to lack of funds to repair. The residents risk having fires by using plug in heaters. No heat, not hot water. And sometimes no water at all, residents have to make long lines with buckets to get water from the local neighborhood fire hydrant. I took pictures, I have them.

Just make a plan to tear the buildings down and rebuild. This happens every year, and it's sad and unfortunate for these residents.

Go live in Breaking Ground 's SROs. The rooms are so small but we never go through this. I'm not sure why. The people who live in NYCHA buildings always go through this. And the media always eventually go and report on it. Why is it like this?

It’s already too late for the adults living in nycha but if they have children they better force their kids to get an education or else they’ll suffer the same misery. This continuous pattern is getting boring and it seems deep down they enjoy living in poverty.
