The xTool P2 is a relatively compact 55W desktop CO2 laser. With air assist, baked in and 2 16mp cameras this laser packs a ton of features within its shell. xTool sent this over a couple of months ago to test out on the channel and today we will go over its specs, what setup was like, what I have done with it, and my thoughts based on my time with it so far.

Oh I need this. We bought a D1 Pro 20W last year and quickly found out we were limited with materials not knowing any better so we've been looking at CO2 lasers.

My friend just got one of these a couple of days ago. Was just looking at it this morning. I’ve done a good bit of laser cutting on pro end machines. This P2 is quite exciting. Seems to be very well made too.

For sticking things down to the cutting table, I find that hard drive magnets work really well and the shielding won't interfere with the fans. Did your unit come with an air filter? Those work really well for acrylic, leather, etc. (really stinky materials).

Did the metal slats come with it. Do you slats with the honeycomb ? Do they serve different purpose?

Great vid! I definitely will consider this if/when my Glowforge goes out. it seems to be just about everything the Glowforge offers, with many additional benefits that I've been hoping they'd come out with over the years.

Great review machine looks nice. Still dont know how I feel about stuff like built-in exhaust fans. First thing I would want to bypass haha.

How often do you have to fill the water.

Where do we go to see a comparison for diode, IR and CO2 lasers? Capabilities, use applications etc...I have an xTool D1 with the 455 diode and 1024 IR. Just trying to understand where the CO2 falls in comparison to these two. Thanks,

Lakeshore3D sells some slat clips and material locators that might be interesting.

What ratio of baking soda and water did you use for the engraving?

Iv been thinking about getting a xTool laser, not this one as I cant justify the price for what little I use my laser, but one of their 20 diode ones. Mostly because the software looks really intuitive. I know people love Lightburn, and thats cool, but I really hate it. The interface isnt built for people with poor eye sight.

This does look like a really awesome machine though, maybe I need to find a way to justify it :)

Make absolutely sure it's VEG TAN leather if laser cutting. You really don't want to burn chrome tan leather.

The xTool D1 had many alignment issues when doing multiple passes, is that an issue with this one as well?
Additionally I've seen a lot of reviews online saying that the devices stop working pretty soon and that the support is horrible. Does anyone have a clue whether those issues been addressed by xTool?

Between the kill switch on the back and the eleven screws covering the coolant reservoir, this feels like it's meant to be in a school or library or makerspace where curious, unskilled fingers might be wandering about.

Also, the phrase "thousand millimetres" is just really weird to hear. I'd never realised before how readily me and my friends will just switch between units, because that sentence feels like it should have been "a meter by six hundred-and-whatever-it-was millimetres." Which is not a critique, it's an observation on regional dialect. :)

Machine looks great, but I have no idea what I could use this for to pay back even 5% of the cost of purchasing it. I wouldn't buy anything I saw it produce in this video, and can't imagine anyone else locally here doing so either. Maybe a makerspace would buy one and have each person use it once or twice a year, across a few hundred people? It's a shame, because I see similar machines starting at ~$300 and the only thing I can think to use them for is engraving letters and numbers on keys and tools, or once a year cutting acrylic, and that just doesn't justify the cost for me. It would be great to have a new precision tool in my arsenal, but I'm just drawing a blank on use cases. Best wishes.
