After riding for a duration till you just don't wanna ride and finding out what hurts is a good way of knowing what to upgrade first.

Disc brakes - good bright lights, tyres tubeless - I hate punctures and changing tubes; Racks for carrying stuff and/or trailer - I'm not about speed so much as getting there alive. I commute too as i've commented before. Early finish tonight.

I agree with your comment regarding clipless pedals and using flat pedals for been doing that for ages as I regularly swap out pedals on all my bikes when necessary.

Before changing saddle make sure yours is set for max comfort- not just height nut also fore and aft and tilt. Moving it back changes knee angles, bit you will also need to lower it a bit. Bike c3omfort is more about fit than gear. Make sure your stem and cranks are right length for you .

There is no better upgrade than a saddle that works for you. I had big problems with saddle sores until I discovered Brooks. I now own SIX of them.

My last bike; I totally upgraded the drive train, changed the handlebars, attached a rear pannier rack, and upgraded the types of wheel spokes of the wheel; a once, $210.00 dollar bike, but after upgrades is now worth about $650.00, I use it for casual riding and of course, bicycle touring.

Great videos BB thank you... I stumbled on your blog very cool... I commute 22 miles a day to work and back from home on single speed Kona Paddy Wagon... I'm 52 and when I grow up I would like to get a Wabi like yours, I'm very impressed. Thank you for sharing...

For a commuter definitely upgrade the saddle. This isn't an upgrade, but keeping up with the maintenance of your commuter bike will also make for a better ride every time.

Hi I haven't watched for a while but it's good to see your still at it. Keep it going, 😀

32 mm gravel king tires were the best upgrade for my commute. 16 miles each way with 6 of gravel.

There's always Recumbent Bikes (and more expensive Trikes) out there too, especially if you're looking for comfort. They're what I'm researching right now and wanting to upgrade to from my old traditional bike.

A simple bike computer is a good thing. It can tell you the time and your speed as well as miles.

Comfort is so important if it's not fun you won't be riding much.

Definitely upgrade comfort first. Upgrades to gain speed aren't necessary for a commuting rig. A good bike fit, saddle, large volume tires, and a dependable, smooth drivetrain.

I have 2 fairly older bikes. One is a 17 year old mountain bike. ( Specialize rockhopper), and the other is a 11 year old Scott hybrid. Would you recommend upgrading either of these, as far as newer cranksets and cogs, or just pick up a new one?

What are good brake pads to buy? I don't think I've ever upgraded those on any of my bikes. I did discover yesterday I bought the wrong sized pedals.1/2 instead of 9/16
