haha, sounds a bit like Memorial Day in the U.S. Have a day that "commemorates" military personnel past and present and the wars they fought on behalf of big corporati....I mean governme....I mean "we the people"...oh fuck, who knows whose wars are being fought at what times. Either way, it's a time to show who's THE most patriotic of them all and we have barbecues and get drunk. So yea, same holiday different country and I'm pretty sure I've seen some U.S. flag cape wearing superhero white people (wearing military/hunting inspired camouflage outfits underneath).

Apart from the Second World War against the Japanese, all of Australia's wars have been pointless, and fought on behalf of other countries.
I can't understand the mindless celebration of Gallipoli today. 50, 000 Australians died in WWI fighting for England.
Probably the only thing it achieved was the cessation of hostilities against Aborigines for a few years.
