Firewire x Tomo Revo Max Surfboard Review

Another stroke of genius from Daniel 'Tomo' Thomson, the Firewire Revo Max is the latest in his line of Moden Planning Hull (MPH) designs. The Revo Max takes his innovative Vee Quad Concave into new territory. The Revo Max is a twin fin mid length with step up capabilities.

As most of you know we love Tomo's designs, they work so well in a big range of conditions and generate speed really easily which is what most of the time we're searching for. This board in particular with its concave set up and twin fin design is rapid to say the least. Quite often with boards that deliver a lot of speed there is an issue with controlling that speed, no such problems with this board. Its responsive to surf and very precise in how it reacts to the surfers movements.

Its got a big wave range too, don't be put off by the 'Step Up' tag it works in everyday surf just fine. Waist high to well overhead is its true wave range and it doesn't mind a bit of wind or chop. It feels stable to surf and obvioulsy paddles really well, it gets on a rail really easily too so you don't have to be a brilliant surfer to really enjoy it. If you are looking for a board delivers a high wave count and can either cruise or be pushed hard in a wide wave range this is a solid contender, if you happen to like a twinny set up too then look no further!

Firewire's colabs with Tomo are just so good for everyday waves and the wave pool too, we're stoked to see another winner in the range.

The Volcanic tech combined with the now familiar Ibolic set up is a brilliant step forward in terms of performance but also has a reduced environmental impact compared to traditional surfboard builds. .

Volcanic Tech is made from Basalt Fibres Extruded from Volcanic rocks. The rocks are crushed, melted and extruded into woven fibres that make up the cloth. The molten rock is then extruded through small nozzles to produce continuous filaments of basalt fibre. The filaments are then cut into long stem fibres and woven into lamination cloth fibre. The cloth has similar characteristics to carbon as it relates to strength and weight however because the fibres are derived from Organic Raw materials, when combined with Bio Resins it serves as better degradable ECO alternative than using traditional carbon fibre cloth.

Boardshop is stoked to be a key partner for Firewire surfboards across Europe and beyond, we've been with them since the very start. Firewire surfboards are more durable than other surfboard manufacturing processes, and for 90% of surfers they will improve your surfing.

You guys need to compare the S-Boss and Revo Max and Long Rider. Too many boards to choose from

Sick board. Lucky enough to have ridden the 6’3 a bit. It’s unique and rides great. The Tomo hull shape could be the future of surfboards - the twins work great with it. Really light feeling board. Thanks boardshop for the video.

this is interesting as a mini midlength. there used to be a couple senior surfers at my break that rode tomo's but sized up and they surfed really well and stylish too.

Thanks for the video 🙌 How’s this comparing (as a mid length) to the Boss Up in softer/mushy East Coast Florida surf? Long Rider seems like a solid choice too for an intermediate surfer

thanks for the review. I'm 53 and been surfing in Bali for 3 years. love my 5'10 dumpster diver and 6'6 chilli mid strength, but one obv turns better and the other gives me so much more confidence popping up. would you recommend the 6'0 or 6'3 for me to keep my wave count up but keep on pushing my turns more vertical?

If you had to choose one and one board quiver 7.0 Ish) mid length for British south coast waves what would you go for from the CI Mid, Tomo Evo Max, Skindog Ova as examples... what would you go for? (I'm 5'10 and 11 stone)

In the shorter sizes like 6'3 could that be an every day board replacement?
