Why do Architects wear Black : with Mariana from Zaha Hadid Architects

Do architects really wear too much black in their daily lives? I’m sure that’s not true. Is it? And if it is why just black? Is it a fashion thing or is there a deep routed unconscious behavior that all designers pick up? Well I am trying to find the answers, and you are coming on this journey with me.

My friends and I noticed that all our batch wears black when midterms and finals are approaching. It's like our uniform for war.

This is so crazy because I wear black every day and I am a advertising creative and architectural designer. Everyone in the ad business also wears black. I think it’s the color of Creatives. I also heard some thing about there was this movement of Creatives that only wore black. I love black and started wearing it unconsciously. Had no idea it was a trend until I already started doing it LOL

I'm an interior designer and I've came to realised that I started wearing black more often than before I came into this field. I think it's safe and comfortable and tough. my favourite colour is pink but I think black has became my go-to colour now

I think because Architects deal with colours and the environment basically everyday of their life that they choose to express the colours on their projects rather than on themselves.

Black indicates the empty space where we can design anything... Ofcourse this is not the exact reason to wear black... But simply love to wear black and also inspired by many great Architects.

I personally think that creativity is subjective, creatives tend to showcase themselves as their art. Also, it’s less distracting to your thoughts.

When you are thinking and taking decisions often which involves textures, colors, etc… you don’t want your clients to get distracted from your outfits because what if they pick something from your outfit!

I am wearing black rn! The other reason to wearing black is because it does not highlight shadows. It looks clean and lean. In black one doesn't cares about how their dresses folds and what shadows or bumps are highlighted. A reason for me choosing black outfits over lighter ones.

I'm a 3rd year Architecture student at NITH and I already have 2 pairs of black polo shirts, 4 black trousers, a couple of black formal shirts and 2 black suits and I also didn't notice, figure out to be precise, that all my footwear are black too. I didn't think about the earlier but this seem to coming subconsciously to existence and it's cool.

I mean I never wondered why I always go for dark colors. You make me think about my life's choices hihihi.

P.s. The only recognizable colors by the council of fashion cells in my brain are White, Navy blue and Grey.💁🏻‍♂️

Wearing black shows more professionalism and seriousness, and when an architect talks about a plan or a design, they put a more serious persona that is driven with passion

Lol. I'm wearing black too rn. And it's not just about architects and designers really. I believe black is a choice for all the creative minds out there in whatever field they are.
Personally the reason I love to wear black is it's always classy😎 (yeah it has black sunglasses too), and also one does not have to spend their brain and time in selecting a suitable combination 😂.
