Blakistone Lighthouse on St Clements Island, MD

Replica, erected in 2008, of the original Blakistone Lighthouse located on St Clement's Island. St Clement's Island is located 1/2 mile off of Colton's Point in the Potomac River. The original Lighthouse was built in 1851 and survived a Confederate raid during the US Civil War. A stray artillery round fired from Dahlgren, VA is to blame for the fire that destroyed the lighthouse in 1956. The 40 foot Cross was erected in 1934 in celbration of Maryland's 300th anniversary. Very nice and beautiful Fall 2020 perspective captured for the site of the first Roman Catholic Mass in the colonies! (How appreciative they and Fr Andrew White were in 1634 as thanksgiving for their safe arrival after an arduous journey from England).
