On November 30, 2018 the Smith family in Baltimore, Maryland were having a night out. Valeria Smith was with her father, Keith, and step-mother, Jacquelyn, belatedly celebrating her 28th birthday.

At the American Legion Hall they ate, drank, danced and took photos. When the family exited the legion just before midnight, no one would have predicted that the night was about to turn deadly.

A few blocks from Valeria’s home, Keith slowed the car to a stop and rolled down the passenger window. Jacquelyn wished to offer money to a new mother who was out on the street, carrying a small bundle in her arms as well as a sign that read: “please help me feed my baby” …

As Keith would later tragically recount: stopping to help the woman in need would prove to be Jacquelyn Smith’s fatal mistake.

Both he and his daughter had a message for the city of Baltimore: be careful of who you trust, because things are not always as they seem...

"Things are not always what they seem." Truer words were never spoken.

A lazy man saw a successful woman and decided to ruin her life to please himself. So happy I got to hear the story of Jacquelyn she was amazing.

What I love about this channel is… No eerie music just straight to the story with the facts and clips when available. 👌

Heartbreaking! Ladies when you want to divorce a man, don’t let him know until all of your affairs are in order. Make sure you have a support system in place!

I’ll never forget when I first became a flight attendant, I worked a flight from Brownsville to Dallas and this man and his daughter were on my flight as they had just been captured before fleeing the country. Surprisingly the daughter was polite, but I’ll never forget the cold, blank stare this monster gave me. I hope he’s rotting in prison for what he did to his poor wife.

So pleased that the police did their investigations quietly keeping a close eye on him

Poor Jacqueline.... The photos that night, she looks SO happy. She was clueless that she would soon face the ultimate betrayal. HOW could they?!😢

I noticed the daughter was trying too hard to act emotional on camera, no tears but kept wiping her eyes. What a very sad and scary way to die.😢

An electrical engineer for the Dept Of Defense marrying a halfway illiterate felon is just depressing. He was lucky she even gave him the time of day, yet he had the audacity to brutally & selfishly end her life. Disgusting.

"Be careful who you trust because things aren't always as they seem."
That message from Keith was pretty chilling because in a bizarre way, he was speaking about himself.

It is sickening how many good people are killed by cowardly, insignificant jerks.

If I've heard it once, I've heard it a thousand times..."leave like a thief in the night."

I can only imagine the look of betrayal on Jacquelyn’s face, when her supposed “loved ones” stabbed her in the heart.

I went to high school with him. We had a lil reunion @ a local restaurant and when he was making his way around the room he was saying demeaning comments to some of the women. He was SO DISRESPECTFUL! He had this arrogant personality about him. Needless to say we were glad he didn't come to any more reunions. He is definitely where he need to be. My condolences to Ms. Jacquelyn's family.🙏🏽

I remember when this story broke. I didn’t suspect her husband. I remember thinking most homeless people are already settled that time of night and especially a woman with a baby. What horrible people these 2 are. So glad they didn’t get away.

There is a reason JTL is my favorite. Kevin is so thorough and covers each case without bias. I love this channel.

That daughter and father deserve capital punishment. His daughter lied for him knowing that the woman who helped raised her was a good person, a great step mother, beautiful and bright. They both are wrong. She loves them so much. She didn't deserve that at all!

I'm so glad no innocent people were charged with this.

Kevin, I like your channel because you are not all over the screen throughout the stories not like some other YouTubers. Your narration is short, point blank, very clear with storylines and easy to follow. I wish you get more followers and more work for people like me. Good luck.
