Best to convert them into fractions. It’s less messy.
So 31/2 x 31/100 =961/200 then convert again to get 480.5/100 then use the decimal places to get 4.805

I stack them and multiply that’s easier and I’m learning multiplying decimal this last unit before I become an 8th grader
