Someone is impersonating me on TikTok

Well this is weird... I've recently found out that someone has been impersonating me on TikTok! I thought I'd post this brief video to let you all know that it isn't me.

If any of you are on TikTok and are able to report the account for me I would really appreciate it. Also, if anyone has any idea why this might have happened then let me know!

UPDATE: I thought the account had been removed but I’ve been messaging Heidi (AKA the Narrowboat Pirate) and she has found it again, it’s just that the name has changed! She has been reporting the videos individually but TikTok said there was no copyright infringement, which is clearly incorrect.

Guys and gals, read on here that its only Betty who can report it. Not true. Click on the arrow in the top right when on the duplicate account on tik tok. Then at the bottom click report...click impersonating someone... select celebrity (Real Betty is to us) and when ir asks who, type in and select you tube.

I know its a bit clunky and not ideal, but the more people that do it, the more attention Tik tok will pay to the fake channnel

This happens a lot unfortunately. Even when a creator has an official channel on TikTok itself, they still try it, because it pays.

Thanks Betty for this explainer video. Even though this 'situation' isn't the best, don't let this'incident' put you off - your efforts are much appreciated! Suggestion...keep bugging TikTok EVERY DAY until they remove the account. It may take a moment or three, but if you bug them enough...you get the picture I'm sure. I've had this done to me on Facebook when I had done a giveaway on my account. They set up a fake account telling people they had won, trying to make them click on a link and give their details. Luckily, Facebook took it down pretty quickly. Not sure why this person would just post clips unless they're trying to build an account big enough to generate income without doing any of the hard work. So annoying! Hope you get it sorted quickly.

From my knowledge of social media, they're probably just doing it to get monetisation of their fake or any parallel accounts.
You should possibly consider watermarking each film that you do. I believe it can be done during editing, but I haven't done that yet, so my knowledge is limited.
We all know though that there's only ONE Betty!!! Happy Narrowboating!😊

Best way to report them is to make your own tiktok account to prove with no doubt it's you, you will have to upload your own stuff there too to prove it's really you. Link your YouTube account in your tiktok account too. Wish you all the best. Love your vids here thank you for sharing. I know it is upsetting but there is always a way to sort it all out.

Crikey, even a fake account can garner over 12k in followers, while genuine accounts struggle to keep them. I know I do. I think Social media, no, this entire world has become topsy turvy from the inside out.

That is so strange! I guess it would be different if they were saying “my channel is a collection of my favourite narrow boat content from various other channels which I’m resharing” (although that is probably not allowed either, I don’t know). But to pretend to be you is just so wrong!!! But I guess one positive thing is that it is a sign you are doing well…. Like when people make fake social media accounts pretending to be big name celebrities!

So sorry to hear this Betty.
Similar has happened me in the past when I had my phone stolen. The person hacked into it & took over everything in my name.
I knew who took my phone & informed the police, yet unfortunately they didn't prosecute.

When the same/similar happens to famous people, prosecution & charges are made.
Unfortunately we live in a world with some bad people & at times double standards...

It's so frustrating, though fortunately there's more good people, than bad.
