I'm just going Wii U for Breath of the Wild to start. If the Switch picks up steam and becomes a decent system, I'll just pick up the Switch version later.

I literally just ordered a Wii U, with the prior knowledge that the Switch is being released in March. The reason is because I missed out on all those amazing Zelda/Mario games and also because the Switch will not be backwards compatible. I hate buying used things but since I'll be buying the Switch as well, I purchased the Wii U refurbished (directly from nintendo + 2 games came with it + 1 year warranty) for $200.00. If you want to play those amazing games that you missed out on, then go ahead buy it is my advice.

Honestly, if you want the most optimal gaming experience, buy the switch and a PC. Not my personal choice but, best way for new comers.

What will suck tho on Exclusive Wii U games is the fact that in the NX trailer they show splatoon with new hair styles, Mario kart 8 with new characters and switch ability, which means that they will probably port every damn game to the NX so it has strong games considering most people didn't buy Wii U. But for us who own those games on Wii U it will have upgraded content and all DLC included. So it'll be almost like they are ignoring the Wii U like they did with Virtual Boy. And they have said they aren't stopping 3ds because the market is still strong. But I bet it'll fade out. Maybe like PS2. Slow burn out. The only thing I've heard from the Metroid team is that the Wii U was not where they wanted to develop and Federation Force really leaves on a cliff hanger to open a Metroid prime 4...I think it'll def happen on NX like u said.

I wouldn't recommend buying a Wii U until at least after we know what's coming out on the NS.
We know that at least we'll be getting enhanced ports of MK8 and Splatoon with some additional content. And there's plenty of rumours around that we'll be getting ports of Mario Maker and Smash.
Add in a port of Xenoblade chronicles, and maybe Bayonetta along with quite possible VC support for Wii U titles and the list of good exclusives on the Wii U is sizably diminished.
The Wii U isn't going to be the next Dreamcast, it simply doesn't have anywhere near the same amount of titles. It had a solid lineup of exclusives, some good, some decent but overall nothing I would consider to be too classical.
A solid and enjoyable console for sure, but wait until we see exactly how much of it's moderately small library is going to end up on the Switch and experiencing it on a new system with a new user base might very well be the way to go.

It’s 6th March 2022, and it’s very interesting to listen to this video now ;)
And hearing you drop F-bombs is somewhat refreshing!

If you like old school games with next to no shooters (literally) and you're way more focused on single-player, than the Wii U is totally worth it. (I know it's ironic after the Wii, which was multiplayer heaven, but it is what it is). You also have to be willing to sort out indie games on the e-shop if you want to get the most out of your system. And you have to like/admire a lot of retro graphics, because you will get into the virtual console, which now uses save-states and which makes cheating very addictive.

And although most people just gloss over it, the Wii U's multiplat third party titles that came out within a year or so of launch are often the definitive versions, since the Wii U was more powerful than the PS3 or Xbox 360. I personally don't care about a lot of these games but Wii U has the best Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Tekken Tag tournament 2, Bayonetta ONE (which came in the double-disc version of Bayonetta 2), etc.

I got a cheap Wii U.. Going to give the Switch at least a year and a half to see what happens, but for now, the Wii U console is still really great.

Just wait till the switch comes out. Trust me it will be worth waiting and there will be better games and more 3rd party support and you can use it anywhere or at home

Now that we have a lot of the good games from that library, do you think it’s still worth it?

I have a Wii U, and it is awesome. I have Mario Kart, Smash Bros, Super Mario 3D World and many others. I still really want the Switch for Christmas, and I want Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, Arms, The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild, and Sonic Mania.

Does the Wii U have backward compatible with the previous Wii

Good point. Wii u has backwards compatibility which is a nice convenience, I just didnt think about it because I have everything from Wii u and down emulated on a pc.

Wood I believe the APU Processor they use is a Nvidia Teggra similar to the one in the Nvidia shield which is a tablet. So the actual graphical power will be in the tablet of the switch and the "console" is merely a docking station with a HDMI pass through to play on your TV. So there will not really be any loss of graphics expect the tablet will only run in roughly 720p instead of a native 1080p on the TV.
