MOEBIUS 18" DIAMETER JUPITER 2SPFX.

I wanted to recreate a lift off from the TV series, Lost in Space with my "HERO" build up of the Moebius Jupiter 2.

The model features the following...
Spinning scanner in upper bubble and Mechanical engine set up. Both are tied into a potentiometer so I can run them at any speed I wish.
The exterior hatch was filled in and sanded smoother the 4' filming miniature.
Practical interior with four figures.
Removable Landing gear.

The video was filmed outside in natural sunlight.
All the effects are in Camera.

Thanks!

That's the way it should be done, the sound effects of the engines while the ship is taking off! Awesome!

As a Lost in Space tragic, I must say this is sensational.
Sure smoke & fire are very difficult to scale down for realism. Some Sci Fi FX artists use dry ice or freon gas like on Space 1999.
On most occasions "they" use a "dulling" spray to make the wires invisible & hard to spot. However, professionals never reveal their filming secrets.
All things considered though this is most impressive work.

WELL DONE! Irwin Allen himself would be proud of this video. Someone said there was "Too Much Smoke." NO! There wasn't. Someone said smoke should not be coming up from the ground after take-off. Wrong! That's the residual effect of radioactive burn caused by J-2's engine & her thrusters. THIS is the way SHE takes-off. THIS is the way SHE leaves her mark, with dust & debris in the air & a hell-of-a-lot of noise. THIS is the JUPITER II !

When I was small, I wondered how could they build an elevator inside. This "UFO" looked very flat! But it didn't matter, I loved every chapter...

Awesome job... I built on in the 70's, with different products available. Crashed on takeoff ... Yours looked great

Very nice. Even more impressed that this is the 18" and not the 1/35 kit.

Nothing beats the sound of the Jupiter 2 atomic engines.

That's the same sound effect of The Time Tunnel running and The Flying Sub descending towards the water out of control.

Not bad but for a moment I thought the J2 caught fire !!

I would do a deeper bass effect and much less smoke, maybe just some light dust. Also, pan the camera straight up to see the underneath. Then a gradual angled flight. Looks great so far! Hope this helps, long time LIS fan.

Not bad, not bad at all.
But when the ship takes off, shouldn't the smoke from the rockets blast down from the bottom of the space ship, not blasting UP from under the ground
Even though, still bloody good :-)
