There are few mysteries as well known as that of the maverick aviator Amelia Earhart.

Earhart was the first female aviator to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean and claimed numerous aviation records…until she took her final flight in 1937, when she made an attempt to become the first woman to circumnavigate the globe in an airplane.

On July 2, 1937 at 10:00 am, Amelia and her navigator took off on one of the final legs of their trip around the globe headed for Howland Island in the Pacific Ocean…but this would be the last time they were ever seen.

While she may have been close to the Island with numerous broken radio transmissions with the US Coast Guard cutter ship, The Itasca, the crew lost communications with Earhart that fateful day..

After days of searching by the U.S. Navy, Coast Guard by sea and air, everyone’s worst fears were confirmed, Amelia Earhart would not be found, and was declared dead one year and six months after she went missing.

Amelia Earhart was a true pioneer. Courageous, bold, curious. We are all sad that she did not get to live a much longer life and break many more records. RIP! 😢
