I just got a g4000 and got an axa qctp, glad I saw this, when I would have went to put it on I would have been scratching my head about the small post. I just ordered the adapter.

the purpose of what they call the compound is for cutting machine threads on the lathe, or cutting a taper.

Outstanding purchase! The finish issue you are facing is because the round aluminum bar is not perfectly true and when spinning it exaggerates the problem, that is why your finish cuts will be much better near the ends where the stock is held by the chuck or the tailstock. Also different cutters have a big effect on finish.. Lastly a lubricant like WD-40 is very helpful for cutting, turning or knurling Aluminum. I promise you the money you spent on this lathe will not be regretted. You just bought a few hundred pounds of pure fun! =D

I have had one of these lathes for 25 years and recently decided to get rid of all those drive belts especially that expensive Gates thin V belt. I purchased a 3 phase 1 horse motor plus a Variable frequency drive both now not expensive items, the lathe now has just a spindle pully and a motor pully using a SPZ v belt I can now change speed with the turn of a knob this is the best mod for this lathe you can ever do.

Nice setup, I have the same lathe. I would lose the gloves, and I would roll up that left sleeve before they get twisted with the chuck and that would be a trip to the hospital.

Thank you for sharing, this has been a good help. I am wondering if you might be able to help me further though. I recently purchased the same lathe but some of the badges have faded and I can not read them. They are not shown in any manual that I can see and wondered if I might be able to request a few photos from you ? Cheers

I have the G4000 and never felt it auto feed fed slow enough for a real good finish on aluminum no matter how I cut or radius my tooling. I usually hand feed slowly followed by some sanding paper. It does well enough for my handywork needs. I still have the original tool holder, but I did cut and machine a new base/clamp plate for it. That helped for sure.

This is one of those tools that will never make it to my tool list because there are just not enough hours in the day or days left in my life. Or space in my garage! I wonder how I can get it up to my living room…

Nice find! I'd lose the gloves. Fine for use with handheld tools and manual processes. Not for bench tools that spin.

Since they have been making the G4000 for over 20 years have they made it better or worse to keep prices down? Does mfg tooling wear out and make sloppy ones or castings are bad = old molds????

Hi, I need your help. I have the same lathe but the power switch packed it in as it fell apart.
I have the replacement switch but need help to rewire it. Pictures would really help.

Just had to ask if the gas jug beneath the lathe is part of your safety program?

I machined a screw of diameter for the AXA to press fit on the compound. The OD of that screw is going to cause chatter for sure. It was an easy fix.

Nice haul. I am currently making one of the compound clamps.

With the 2280AXA kit, is the 4 bolt base plate included or do I need to order it separately?

That quick change tool post for me seems to be way too big for that size of lathe. I have a same size lathe(Bernardo 500)and bought the one size smaller for it.

It would get a better finish if you set the feed sped to the lowest setting. I’m thinking really hard about buying the same Lathe. I’ll be watching to see how you like it. Great Video. Subscribed when I saw it.
