Can Apologists Be Scholars?

The same people who try to demean Christian scholars as "just apologists" are themselves apologists. I don't know why it is hard for many of the atheists to get that they are also doing apologetics.

@TruthUnites, for the past decade, I've observed that the term "apologist" is increasingly used as a pejorative. I think a lot of this has to with the many uncredentialed individuals who have labeled themselves apologists and built enormous pop-level platforms. For this reason, I've avoided the term at all costs. I wish conferences would also drop the term if the speakers they invite are proper scholars in their respective fields. I think I remember you breifly mentioning this dynamic in a video a while back, but a full length treatment would be great.

One way to see it is that you are an apologist BECAUSE you are a scholar. If you consistently see evidence that leads you to think a certain way, would a scholar not defend that particular viewpoint? Part of scholarship is obviously to challenge your beliefs. But, this is would be true for any scholar- Christian, atheist, or other.

I suppose it's possible to be an apologist without being a scholar. I imagine you wouldn't be a good one though. But, they aren't mutually exclusive.
